JUMO is looking for a talented Regulatory Specialist to join us and help solve a challenging set of problems in a space packed full of opportunities. Help us power Africa’s future, today. The successful individual will be responsible for supporting the Regulatory Counsel in addressing cross-border regulatory issues and the preparation of related documents and to ensure that the Company complies with all laws and regulations as enforced by legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Determine cross-border compliance requirements with AML and KYC requirements
• Scope out regulatory runway of pending legislation
• Ensure compliance with all cross-border regulations
• Review new cross-border legislation and keep up to date with regulatory changes
• Deal with regulatory queries
• Ensure that the Company continuously manages its regulatory risks by complying with applicable laws and regulations
• Ensure that relevant regulatory measures are incorporated into operational procedures throughout the Company
• Provide advice and guidance on regulatory and group policy issues and alert management of risks
• Manage AML and compliance risk assessments, testing programs and new business compliance regulatory reviews
• Develop training processes and provide ad hoc targeted training on regulations and compliance procedures
• Monitor compliance in terms of scheduled monitoring compliance plan 

Requirements

•  LLB degree
• Administrative law is desirable
• Member of the Compliance Institute of South Africa is desirable
• At least 5 – 8 years’ experience in regulatory law and compliance, ideally with experience from a top tier law firm or strong in-house environment
• Experience in cross-border regulatory issues
• Knowledge of and immediate experience in operating in a cross-border financial services legal and regulatory environment
• Telecoms experience is desirable
• In-house experience working within a regulatory law is desirable
• Regulatory experience and relationships with regulators in Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda is desirable
