Siyavula is an EdTech company with an online maths and science practice service for high school learners. The service allows learners to practise maths and science questions in a sequence that is best suited to their individual needs and is a software-as-a-service offering that caters for any device with a web browser, even the most basic phone. This means that it maximises access even in rural areas. Questions are generated from software designed and coded by our team of educational technologists. Questions are automatically marked and detailed solutions are provided, allowing learners to practice for mastery at their own pace, driven by a machine learning algorithm. Our approach allows us to reach all learners irrespective of background, by balancing earned sponsorship with a retail offering and school-specific products. We are already reaching over 100 000 learners and will be expanding into other markets in Africa in 2018.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We are a small team and we are looking for a multi-talented person to take responsibility for building and maintaining the overall aesthetic of our practice service and marketing media. The person in this role will provide art direction and visual design expertise, and work with our learning researcher, pedagogy specialists, and front- and back-end developers to create great user experiences. Our ideal candidate should have training and professional experience in graphic design, web design, and user interface design. Experience with UX is required. We aren't big enough yet to have a dedicated person for each of those hats. REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• 3+ years of professional UI/UX and graphic design experience
• Undergraduate degree in graphic design, web design or a related field, or equivalent past work experience supported by portfolio
• High proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
• Solid, demonstrable experience in creating site flows, user flows, wireframes, and other UX deliverables
• Experience in mobile-first, responsive web design, and progressive enhancement
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript (jQuery or React), or Marvel or equivalent for prototyping
• Excellent written and verbal communication

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain and help refine the Siyavula identity across multiple projects, including social media, blog, PDFs and more
• Create visual concepts, content and user interfaces from scratch and from legacy assets
• Responsible for UX direction of our practice service in partnership with the product manager
• Conduct usability testing and contextual enquiries
• Collaborate with marketing team members to drive the look and feel of our content marketing
• Produce wireframes and mockups with project managers
• Assist in establishing and promoting design guidelines
