Job description

The Real People Group operates on a divisional basis. This position is available within the Home Finance Division which provides unsecured loans to individuals for home improvement purposes through a network of buildware merchant stores across the country. This position is based in the Rosebank, Johannesburg.

The incumbent will be responsible for providing accounting services to the Home Finance Division and will be required to perform the following duties:

• Manage two staff members including their performance assessments and development plans
• Providing financial assistance to the Home Finance department heads, their customers, in terms of monthly financial reporting, which includes variance analysis against budget / forecast
• Assisting their customers during the budget and forecast process for operating expenses, as well as assisting the FM / CFO with debtors’ related information. The incumbent will also be responsible for importing the budget into the general ledger to facilitate budget and forecast reporting.
• Liaison with internal and external auditors to provide the relevant information requested
• Assist with the overall control environment for accounting processes to ensure that the risks are adequately managed
• Take ownership of the divisional TBs and ensure that month end deadlines are met
• Ensure adequate controls exist for intragroup transactions are processed correctly and that intercompany accounts are balanced
• Prepare / review balance sheet reconciliations for all accounts within the Home Finance ledger and manage the clearing of any reconciling items, including bank accounts, fixed assets, debtors’ control, trade creditors and sundry debtors and creditors accounts
• Preparation of the various legal entities’ VAT apportionment calculation and processing of the relevant journal entries
• Preparation of the various legal entities’ income tax computations on a monthly basis and process the relevant journal entries
• Collate information for the VAT and tax submissions of the relevant legal entities within the various income tax and VAT cycles

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE

• A qualified Accountant with a recognised B Com (Hons) / B Compt accounting degree or equivalent qualification
• Relevant track record of at least 3 years post articles experience in an accountant role in a financial services or a banking environment will be advantageous
• Experience in basic financial modeling and forecasting
• Experience in cost centre / departmental reporting
• Great Plains accounting software experience will be advantageous
• Excel – pivot tables, and basic report building
• Ability to work with teams in different geographical locations
