    Risk Information Analyst

    Job description

    A new career opportunity has become available within the Risk Function: Model Risk and Development: Risk Information Services.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Data Stewart
    • Participate in data extractions from various sources such as Absa Data warehouse, internal business data marts, and other product house data systems according to specified business product and segmentation requirements in support of meeting business stakeholder information needs
    • Interpret business information/data requirements into the correct programming code to extract the required data and then create and execute SQL (Structured Query Language) database queries to extract needed data. This includes new and existing Queries
    • Facilitate sessions with external vendors during planned system or data extraction changes to obtain an understanding of the source of data
    • Document the appropriate business and product rules used in the program codes for all reports being developed and store this code in a safe but accessible location. This includes the process/terms of references used and sources of data
    • Data Governance & Quality
    • Document data controls and ensure that documentation and controls are updated properly and make sure that data quality issues that have been logged are addressed and that progress of the issue is monitored and reported
    • Ensure that proactive data profiling/quantification is scheduled and that results are regularly reviewed, monitored and logged as issues where appropriate.
    • Report incomplete, invalid, duplicate, inconsistent, redundant, outdated and, or inaccurate data to individual line managers indicated as users and, or producers or who have contributed to the definition process and reach agreement on how to correct the issues.
    • Create remediation plans to address data quality issues. Liaise with Sector Data
    • Stewards in other business areas to identify common needs and escalate these to the
    • Data Governance Organisation for Group-wide action.
    • Ensure robust reconciliation process for MI and underlying data
    • Implement and maintain compensating controls for manual data sources and processes
    • Metric Building and Automation
    • Convert data extract into relevant information with supported reporting tool sets compliant with BCBS239 Principles
    • Generate key metrics in support to portfolio management based on policy definitions
    • Create and automate monthly portfolio performance metrics that underline misalignment to agreed Risk appetite
    • Perform relevancy test on all report to identify and discontinue redundant report
    • Document and maintain Reference documents for all reports that include process map, metadata, business glossary, timelines, dependencies and purpose
    • Automate all relevant report within a self-service tool that give the end user the functionality to investigate adverse trends and concentration
    • Relationship Building & Networking
    • Manage relevant key stakeholders across the business ensuring their issues, objectives and priorities are reflected in the agreed solutions
    • Actively engage stakeholders to be fully involved in process and delivery
    • Provide feedback based on historical experience and trend analysis to manage customers expectations on outcome of projects and strategy changes
    • Continuous Self- Development & Growth
    • Stay abreast of knowledge and skills relevant to the level and area of work, as well as
    • actively seeking to attain those required for the next level of work
    • Continuously enhance corporate expertise by analysing it's drivers, key indicators, relationships and trends

    Education and Experience Required:

    • Relevant qualification in Informatics (NQF level no.)
    • 4-5 years relevant working experience in a Financial Information/Reporting department

    Knowledge & Skills:

    • 2-3 years’ experience with the use of analytical and reporting tools such as SQL, SAS, Qlikview.
    • Ability to compare information from number of different sources identifies key issues, with the ultimate aim of producing timely & accurate Management Information
    • Experience in data analysis, manipulation and extraction
    • Competent with MS Office Suite
    • Must be able to function independently or as a part of a large, integrated cross-functional team
