    Business Intelligence Specialist (Oracle)

    Job description

    The University of Johannesburg invites suitably qualified individuals to apply for the position of Specialist: Business Intelligence (Oracle) within the Division Information and Communication Systems at a market-related remuneration package. The Division Information and Communication Systems is responsible for creating and maintaining programmes, business intelligence and reporting that integrates systems, databases and data warehouses.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for Data Management:

    • Analysis and interpretation of programme data
    • Aggregates data from multiple sources into an efficient reporting mechanism through database design and development
    • Data mining, data blending, data visualisation, data reporting, dashboard design and predictive analytics
    • Compliance and maintenance of data analytics that align with the Foundation IT systems and frameworks
    • Identifies and recommends ways of improving information delivery, data capture and design that feeds into business processes through the provision of technical solutions
    • Data governance and BICC
    • Reporting:
      • Supports management through providing support for compilation, analysis and submission of quarterly board reports
      • Liaise with key stakeholders regarding the development, execution and maintenance of data warehouse and technical activities
      • Design event and activity feedback forms and surveys
      • Develop, analyses and draft analytical reports based on programme surveys and event feedback forms
      • Good In-depth Knowledge of OBIEE as reporting tool
    • Research:
      • Interpretation of data based on sound research methodologies and data analysis practices
      • Development of analysis and reporting protocols that align with best practices
      • Keeps abreast of business and technology strategies to provide support for programme reporting

    Support for function:

    • Provides technical assistance regarding accessing and analysing data
    • Advises operational teams on standardised data collection procedures and approaches
    • Supports the transfer of skills to select functions on data management, analysis and interpretation
    • Creation and Maintenance of the data warehouse technical infrastructure.
    • Maintenance of extracts and data cleanup for updates onto the Data Warehouse
    • Establish BICC and regulate it with various stakeholders
    • Establishment of data processing techniques and related data infrastructures
    • Ensuring system side data integrity and security
    • User Access Maintenance

    Minimum Requirements

    • Related Degree: IT qualification
    • 5 Years – Related experience – strong foundation in Oracle business intelligence tools and application
    • 5 Years – Appropriate and demonstrable experience in Oracle business analytics and reporting (OBIEE)
    • 5 Years - Experience with the use of Oracle Business Intelligence Application (OBIA) software and systems, including Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) tool, Oracle databases and Oracle data warehouses expertise.
    • 5 Years - Experience in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL
    • 5 Years - Advanced computer skills – word processing, spreadsheets, internet and e-mail.

    • Implementing or running a data warehouse
    • Communicating with people on managerial levels
    • Data analysis and mapping it to business needs
    • Data mining and information density enhancement techniques
