Postgraduate education or further formal education in the field of curriculum design / instructional design / project management will be beneficial.
At least six to ten year’s work experience in the higher education sector in the content development and / or digital design space, of which five years in a management role
Experience with managing multiple teams on mid-management level, and managing first-line managers
Project management (including budget and resource management) experience
Contributed to functional strategies and implemented associated operational business plans Instructional / curriculum design experience, for blended and/or online learning, will be advantageous
Duties and Responsibilities
Accountable for the performance of the Academic Content Development Team. The team represents the following functions:
Curriculum and instructional design
Content development
Multimedia production
Copy Editing
Quality assurance and enhancement
Operational plans, objectives and schedules (internal and contractors)
Monitoring, control, corrective action (internal and contractors)
Reporting
Escalations / Decisions / Problem solving
Operational efficiency of Academic content development process
Academic content development resourcing and capacity (people; infrastructure; systems; technology)
Contribute to Future Learning and Design strategy and communication / translation to team
Talent acquisition, selection, onboarding and succession / bench strength
Individual performance - role clarity and objectives; reviews; feedback; corrective actions

Culture and climate
Internal and external stakeholder engagement and management / collaboration
Functional Competencies:
Excellent project management skills, and ability to manage multiple teams
In-depth understanding of sound instructional and curriculum design principles
Understanding of multimedia production in the context of education
Advanced understanding of quality assurance frameworks and processes in the context of digital technology-mediated learning
Understanding of the South African regulatory framework, specifically in terms of modes of delivery, curriculum design and delivery
Advanced knowledge and experience with eLearning Management System, preferably Moodle
Ability to maintain cross-functional, and cross-organisational relationships, and to understand and interpret broader business needs for their space
