    Accountant - Mernok

    Main Responsibilities

    • Develop, monitor, review and implement departmental accounting policies, procedures, and processes.
    • Manage all accounting transactions.
    • Verify supporting documents for validity, accuracy, and completeness, and capture the payments and/or receipts on the accounting system.
    • Manage income and expenditure accounts.
    • Reconcile bank statements and bookkeeping ledgers.
    • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
    • Audit financial transactions and documents and resolve discrepancies.
    • Prepare budget forecasts and risk analysis.
    • Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
    • Ensure timely bank payments.
    • Compute taxes and prepare tax returns.
    • Manage balance sheets and profit/loss statements.
    • Generate financial reports using income and expenditure data.
    • Complete analysis of expenditures.
    • Report on the company’s financial health and liquidity.
    • Maintain statutory and other required registers with supporting documents, including but not limited to; register of unauthorised, fruitless, wasteful, and irregular expenditure, register of losses, damages, and claims.
    • Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups when necessary.
    • Be informed about current legislation relating to finance and accounting.
    • Ensure financial records are accurate throughout the year.
    • Provide external auditors with assistance; gather necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
    • Ensure compliance with the company’s OHS policies and actively promote safety. 

    Educational Requirements and Experience

    • Degree in accounting, finance, or relevant degree.
    • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Experience with accounting software and data entry.
    • Advanced knowledge and experience in MS Excel including pivot tables.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Understanding of mathematics and accounting and financial processes.
    • Ethical behaviour.
    • Advanced analytical skills.
    • Experience with general ledger functions.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • A methodical approach and problem-solving skills.
    • Willingness to work beyond normal office hours when required.
