    Accountant

    Job Description

    • Supporting financial integrity within an established operational setting, this full-time position ensures bookkeeping excellence and day-to-day control across the finance function. Reporting directly as the second-in-charge (2IC) to the Financial Manager, the successful candidate will drive accurate transactional reporting and lead internal workflows up to balance sheet and income statement readiness.
    • The opportunity balances precise technical financial accounting with direct team management, fostering workplace collaboration, professional accountability, and the continuous development of department staff. This environment requires a hands-on professional who maintains structural composure and steps directly into the Financial Manager's responsibilities when called upon.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Financial Accounting & Reporting: Prepare, process, and review general ledger transactions, monthly journals, accruals, provisions, and balance sheet reconciliations to deliver financial data up to balance sheet and income statement level.
    • Compliance & Auditing: Secure absolute alignment with core accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies, ensuring particular focus is placed on inter-branch compliance while assisting with month-end, year-end, and statutory audit cycles.
    • Ledger Oversight: Verify fixed asset registers, review debtor and creditor reconciliations, resolve ledger discrepancies, and execute standard banking processes.
    • Team Supervision: Allocate workloads, monitor department deadlines, and provide structural training, mentorship, and performance support to finance team members identified for career growth.
    • Strategic Support: Assist leadership with cash flow monitoring and annual budget preparation, while driving internal process improvements and liaising with external stakeholders.

    Requirements

    • Formal Education: A completed Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of verified accounting experience, featuring a proven history of preparing accounts up to balance sheet and income statement level.
    • Leadership Footprint: Direct experience supervising, managing, or training junior finance staff.
    • Core Competencies: Strong technical reconciliation abilities, high emotional maturity, independent problem-solving skills, and a reliable, solution-driven approach to tracking data under pressure.

    Desirable Requirements

    • Experience operating within a medium-to-large business environment is preferred.
