    Actuarial Analyst

    The Actuarial Analyst is accountable for assisting with the determination of pricing of annuity and life insurance policies for individuals and groups to ensure minimal risk and optimal costs.

    • Compile statistical data and other information for further analysis.
    • Estimate the probability and likely economic cost of risk factors such as age, gender, tobacco use and events such as death, sickness, an accident, or a natural disaster.
    • Design, test, and administer insurance policies, investments, pension plans, and other business strategies to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
    • Develop, maintain, and analyse projection models.
    • Reconcile and analyse actuarial inputs and outputs.
    • Perform experience investigations to compare actual experience to the expected experience to update the actuarial assumptions and models used.
    • Develop actuarial pricing models.
    • Develop models to evaluate business cases.
    • Interpret designs and specifications, and compile detailed product configuration specifications to implement products on to relevant administration platform.
    • Collate the required information to run the valuation models.
    • Run the valuation process and assist with the development and maintenance of valuation models.
    • Development of valuation models to meet the requirements of the changing regulatory and economic environment.
    • Support product development by learning and developing a deep understanding of the company’s administration platform.
    • Assist with the integration of intermediary administration platform and the company’s platform.
    • Review existing processes, assumptions and models used and assist with the development of a robust and well documented actuarial function.
    • Prepare presentations, reports, valuations and regular updates to facilitate business decisions.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics or related analytical field
    • Professional actuary certification (e.g. Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or working towards one)
    • Minimum of 3 years progressive experience compiling data, conducting research, statistical modelling and writing reports
    • Experience working in related fields such as underwriting and product development
    • Solid background in mathematics, statistics, and business
    • Analytical problem-solving abilities and good attention to detail
    • Ability to use and develop spreadsheets, databases, and statistical analysis tools
    • Ability to explain technical matters to a non-technical audience
    • Proficient working with large data sets
    • Solid verbal and written communication skills
    • Familiarity with a wide variety of actuarial functions
    • Good understanding of economics and of the legislation relating to financial services
    • High level of numeracy, statistical and mathematical modelling
