    Your job:

Reporting into the Technical Reserving & Capital Team Lead:

    • You will play an active role in the team responsible for the local implementation of IFRS 17: deriving compliant input assumptions, assessing adherence to the Standard, challenging results and presenting results to senior management. You will perform the quarterly and annual reserving calculations for Munich Re of Africa’s (MRoA’s) book of business. In doing so, you will obtain exposure to multiple, varied lines of business across sub-Saharan Africa and abroad, and also have the opportunity to investigate/challenge the appropriateness of standard reserving techniques.

You will also be involved in incorporating exciting, relevant topics, such as the impact of climate change, into the capital calculations.
    • You will have the opportunity to learn and use R, Python, SQL or VBA to assess opportunities for the automation of standard reserving and solvency processes and implementation thereof if applicable.
    • You will closely collaborate with local and international internal partners (underwriting, finance, accounting and reserving teams from foreign offices) in order to perform your day-to-day tasks pertaining to reserving, IFRS 17 and capital determination.
    • You will have the chance to co-operate internationally, with other Munich Re offices, on various systems-related, reserving and solvency-related projects.
    • You may also be required to assist business with large deals and ad hoc requests.
    • Through managing and driving your tasks and resources, you will have the opportunity to develop your managerial skills.

    Your profile:

    • Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science.
    • Good progress towards actuarial qualification (or near qualification).
    • Knowledge of non-life IFRS 17.
    • At least 2 years of non-life insurance experience, either from an insurer/reinsurer or from a consultancy.
    • SAM experience advantageous.
    • Reinsurance work experience advantageous.
    • Advanced Excel (VBA would be a plus). Power BI, R and/or Python skills would be a plus.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
    • Strong technical skills and the ability to consistently produce high quality output with little guidance or supervision.
