    Area Construction Manager (Worley Division: Worley Matasis (Pty) Ltd)

    Main Purpose Of Job

    • To manage EC&R construction execution at Project Site(s) in a manner that meets Global, Location and customer contractual requirements.
    • To develop collaborative and close work relationships with the multi-disciplinary Project Site Teams in carrying out the business objectives of the Worley Construction Unit in a cost-effective manner.
       

    Responsibilities

    Ensure Safety and Environmental Compliance Management requirements are met.

    • Manage, co-ordinate and enforce legal requirements
    • To enforce a stop and fix culture on sites related to all non-standard operations or unsafe work conditions.
    • Act as an Ambassador of the Company in all aspects of SHERQ & IR.
    • Respond to recommendations on SHERQ performance for project within assigned responsibilities and provide mentoring and support to achieve the objectives and targets.
    • Liaise with Safety Manager/Officer, SHEQ on all aspects of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality matters.
       

    Perform Construction Management (Process).

    • Liaise and co-ordinate between the site contractor’s management teams, the Worley engineers and the clients’ representative.
    • Direct, guide and coordinate site assigned personnel, to achieve effective overall construction execution.
    • Develop and implement Construction Execution strategies at the commencement and during the execution phase of the project.
    • Provide Construction planning input during the project execution phase.
    • Report to the Manager of Construction and the Project Manager any issues arising from co-operation with other areas of Company Operations.
    • Maintain the Company’s image to clients, public and other third parties by effective liaison and establishment of harmonious relationships.
    • Prepare appropriate reports and disseminate the report / matters arising throughout Construction Operations.
    • Carry out daily site inspections on all construction works.
       

    Undertake Schedule Management.

    • Manage the contractor’s schedules against contractual programs, utilizing Site Supervisors to do daily monitoring.
    • Evaluate regularly the performance of Construction relative to the project schedules, budgets and other agreed objectives.
    • Work in collaboration with QS & Estimating: verify and monitor progress billings to customers and from subcontractors. Assist the Project Accounting function in follow-up and payment recoveries if there are on-going payment issues from customers.
    • Initiate whatever actions / improvements are necessary on assigned construction sites managed.
       

    Integrate Compliance (SHERQ) HSE; Risk and Quality Management in construction works.

    • Implement and manage the on-site Compliance Program in an integrated manner.
    • Manage all site based QCP’s through the discipline supervisors utilising Worley standard documents.
    • Set up and implement reviews and audits to provide assurance that all supervised activities are being undertaken in accordance with the appropriate procedures and work practices, and that procedures and work practices are sufficient.
    • Comply with Company and client secrecy agreements pertinent to Construction Operations.
    • Manage, co-ordinate and enforce legal requirements.
    • Manage the injury incident reporting process for Project sites involving Worley employees.
    • Provide timeous inputs from site for client and Worley monthly reports.
    • Ensure no construction work is initiated without approved designs and appropriate documentation.
       

    Perform Site Administration Duties.

    • Manage time and attendance: approval of time off, all leave inclusive of all overtime.
    • Carry out regular reviews of Construction workload, manpower utilization and staffing requirements, to ensure both the adequacy and efficiency of all assigned staff.
    • Set targets, objectives and clear responsibilities for all site personnel. Motivate site personnel by agreeing to action plans and obtaining personal commitment from them.
    • Develop and identify requirements for recruitment, induction, training and development of personnel.
    • Identify new talent and provide mentoring and career development of Construction personnel.
    • Ensure all site decisions are recorded and signed.
    • Ensure traceable change-management is enforced and maintained.
    • Ensure progress and performance of contractors is constantly being recorded.
    • Ensure site personnel use Sharepoint and document control systems to retain intellectual property (records and documents).
    • Min NHD Technical Qualification, Civil or Mechanical;
    • Construction Management Degree or BTech, advantageous;
    • Trade test qualified Fitter & Turner, Millwright and or Boilermaker / Platerwelder;
    • SACPCMP registration;
    • PM (Project Management) Diploma advantageous.

    Experience

    • 10 years’ experience as Construction Manager within the EC&R discipline.
    • Min 10 years’ Petrochem experience as Site Supervisor.
