    Area North: Head

    Requirements
    The City of Cape Town Disaster Management Centre is seeking a dynamic, motivated, experienced and results-oriented individual to serve as Area Head for Area North within the department. The Head will report to the Manager (Head of Centre): Disaster Management Centre and will manage the staff and activities of Area North while working with other portfolios and areas within the department to achieve the goals of the Disaster Management Centre.
    Heads deliver effective and efficient execution of the powers and duties of the Municipal Disaster Management Centre as described in Section 44 of the Disaster Management Act, 57 of 2002, as delegated by the Manager (Head of the Centre) Disaster Management Centre, which include inter alia specialising in issues concerning disasters and disaster management in the municipal area, and promoting an integrated and co-ordinated approach to disaster management in the municipal area with special emphasis on prevention and mitigation.

    • Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma in Disaster (Risk) Management
    • Minimum 8 years or more experience in the field of Disaster (Risk)
    • Management of which 2 at Senior level
    • A valid Code B driver’s licence
    • Computer literacy: MS Office
    • No criminal record
    • DMISA Registration: Practitioner (DMPc), or eligible to be registered

    Key Performance Areas

    • Manage and implement municipal Disaster Risk Management (DRM) policy
    • Manage stakeholder participation and engagement by initiating community involvement and managing DRM volunteers
    • Manage Disaster Risk Assessment, Risk Reduction, Response and Recovery
    • Manage information, communication and logistics within the area
    • Implement risk reduction and preparedness measures for incidents

    • Support DRM public awareness and preparedness programmes
