    Associate Lecturer - Agriculture Sciences

    • The Game Ranch Management Programme at the North Campus of the Nelson Mandela University needs your talent, passion and commitment to strengthen our teaching and research in commercial ecological Game Ranching. A vacancy exists for an Associate Lecturer in the School Environmental Sciences in the Department of Agriculture Sciences. The purpose of this academic post is to teach and research at the interface of the game ranch industry and production sciences, emphasizing the integration of management and science in the Game Utilization business context. The post requires a person who can teach and research across disciplines within the Game Management diploma- and degree programs.     KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    • Teach undergraduate students in the Game Management program in the fields of commercial Business Management (Leadership Development & Strategic Management), Game Science and Game Utilization.
    • Facilitate student learning at post-graduate level in commercial Business Management, Game Science, Game Utilization and Production.
    • Conduct, supervise and publish research relevant to Game Utilization (business management) and sustainable ecological production.
    • Engage with the game industry in terms of Management, teaching, and research.
    • Perform administrative and management functions in the Department of Agriculture and Game Management.
    • Undertake curriculum development for new courses and participate in regular re-curriculation of modules and programme reviews.
    • Initiating community engagement projects and engaging in professional development activities.

    COMPETENCIES

    • Demonstrate an ability to understand the game industry as an integrated and complex system and to work across disciplines within the game utilization business milieu.
    • An ability to engage and work with other people to achieve results beneficial to society.
    • A proven ability to network with practitioners and researchers in industry.
    • The ability to apply theoretical scientific concepts in practice.
    • The potential to conduct applied research and publish research results.
    • Capacity and aptitude for teamwork and working with groups of people.
    • Ability to be creative and innovative in the workplace.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in two of the three official languages of the Eastern Cape.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Be able to collaborate with colleagues within and between departments and foster a constructive research dynamic in the discipline.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and the application of sustainable soil-plant-animal-management interactions within a commercial land use enterprise.
    • Ability to pursue work in the field of Game Utilization, Game Science and Ecological agriculture.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • B degree in the field of Game Ranch Management and Utilization or Wildlife Management or Nature Conservation
    • At least 1- 2 years full-time teaching experience in Game Ranch Management and Utilization or Wildlife Management or Nature Conservation at undergraduate and postgraduate level in both a face-to-face and an online / hybrid environment.
    • Relevant industry work experience outside of an academic institution.

    ADDED ADVANTAGE

    • MSc in Game Ranch Management and Utilization or Wildlife Management or Nature Conservation
    • Evidence of attracting research funding and ability to initiate and manage research partnerships with external stakeholders (e.g., Industry, Government).
    • Firearm competency
