    Associate Professor - (2092)

    Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Facilitate learning and teaching at postgraduate level in Higher Education Studies
    • Provide academic leadership and administration
    • Undertake curriculum development and assessment
    • Conduct research and publish in Higher Education Studies
    • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
    • Participate in community engagement and outreach projects
    • Responsible for mentoring staff in teaching and research
    • Serve on relevant Institute and Faculty committees.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A relevant PhD associated with Higher Education Studies
    • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at postgraduate levels
    • A strong research and academic publications record relevant to Higher Education Studies in the field of education
    • An excellent record of successful postgraduate supervision
    • Experience in Higher Education and curriculum transformation
    • Experience in leading or participating in and securing research funding for large-scale research projects

    Added Advantages:

    • An NRF rating is a strong recommendation
    • Experience in Higher Education postgraduate studies

    Key Competencies:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
    • Ability to work as a senior member of a professional department within the Faculty of Education
    • Presentation and facilitation skills
    • Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment
    • Student-focused approach
    • Coaching and mentoring skills
    • Planning and organising skills
    • Computer literacy and e-learning skills
    • Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement, as well as professional leadership
