    BC - HOD Physical Sciences

    Description

    • St Stithians Boys' College is a leading South African boys' school, which constantly strives for excellence in providing a relevant and rigorous education, and for best practice in the education of boys.     Requirements

    • The College invites applications for the following position which will be available from 1 May 2024.
    • Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who believe they have the required skills and competencies to take on this position. We seek an academic leader to continue to grow our Physical Sciences reputation and who will inspire large numbers of students to take the subject, will grow interest in Physical Science, and who will grow the impact of the department in broader education circles. 
    • The requirements for this position are:
    • A proven academic record and appropriate experience 
    • Experience in IEB Matric Physical Sciences marking (or being an examiner or involvement in curriculum development) would be a distinct advantage
    • An excellent all-round knowledge of Physical Sciences with a passion for the subject 
    • Experienced in developing learning and teaching material and assessment practices and the needs of the learners
    • A fundamentally future-orientated approach to teaching and learning
    • A passion for teaching and for the young men whose learning you would be expected to inspire
    • A sound and progressive understanding of the South African curriculum and international trends in education 
    • Strong ability to manage and mentor your department of experienced teachers and intern teachers
    • Willingness to embrace rapid changes in education and an interest and ability to integrate ICT into your teaching and learning
    • Willingness to collaborate with other Heads of Departments on Campus to further the love of Physical Sciences and curriculum development
    • Promote Physical Sciences excellence and extension of top performing students
    • An awareness of the nature of the school and willingness to commit to its all-round ethos and co-curricular and extension activities 
    • Continue with support structures for students needing assistance and support
    • An ability to be flexible and embrace change and to take initiative and to act decisively
    • An unequivocal commitment to working as part of an accomplished team
    • Ability to inspire and encourage people to seek and maintain high standards of performance
    • Proof of registration with SACE supported by a sexual offender’s clearance certificate
