BI Developer at Hollard Insurance

Job Advert Summary    

• This person will be responsible for development of dashboards and reports to aid business in day-day decisions as well as maintenance of existing reports.
• They will be responsible for automating and driving improvement on manual processes. Conduct data reconciliations from off-platform and on-platform data sources and producing reports and insights from such data.
• The person will interact with the business stakeholders and subject matter experts in order to understand their problems and needs and produce business dashboards and analytical solutions, as well as and ensure data accuracy, efficiency, and usability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Report Development: Design, build, and maintain interactive reports and dashboards using tools such as Power BI, SSRS, or other reporting software.
• Data Extraction & Transformation: Write efficient SQL queries to extract, clean, and transform data from multiple sources.
• Requirement Gathering: Work closely with business users to understand reporting needs and translate them into technical specifications.
• Performance Optimization: Ensure reports are optimized for performance, including query tuning.
• Data Validation: Validate report data against source systems to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of report specifications, data models, and development processes.
• Collaboration: Work with IT, database administrators, and business analysts to enhance data reporting capabilities.
• Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve issues related to data inconsistencies, report failures, and system errors.
• Automation: Identify opportunities to automate and streamline reporting processes.
• Customer service: Maintain a high level of service to customers (internal and external) according to service level agreements and within the service standards as set by the company. Provide timely and professional customer service to stakeholders.  
• Continuous Process Improvement: Ensure full compliance to all processes, policies and procedures. Drive and challenge to do things in a better way which reduces waste.

Required Knowledge and Experience    
Required Experience

• 5 years’ experience in any of the following disciplines:
• Exposure to any reporting tools such SSRS, Power BI or Crystal Reports.
• Exposure to a database design and data modelling
• 5 years’ Microsoft SQL experience. MCTS / MCITP preferential (2008+).
• SSIS design and development of ETL workflows
• Experience with data warehouse architecture and data modelling for reporting and analytics
• Demonstrated experience in identifying opportunities for improvement and driving change
• Transcripts of certification to be provided.

Knowledge and Skills

• Exposure to SQL Management Studio, T-SQL, SSRS, Power BI, SSIS tools
• Exposure to database design and/or data modelling

• Knowledge of MS Office – specifically Word, Excel, Outlook

Educational Requirements    

• Matric/Grade 12
• Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Information Technology, Informatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Sciences, Data Science or Business Analysis
• BI Certification (e.g. Microsoft MCITP, Kimball Certification, etc.) would serve as an advantage.
