Boiler Operator at AVI Limited

• We’re looking for a passionate Boiler Operator – Coal Fired Boiler to join our NBL Rosslyn Snacks in Rosslyn, Pretoria. The purpose of the Boiler Operator – Coal-Fired Boiler role is to safely and efficiently operate, monitor, and maintain the coal-fired boiler plant to ensure a continuous and reliable steam supply for production requirements.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to: Engineering Foreman

Key Areas of Impact:
Operational Control and Monitoring:

• Operate and monitor the coal-fired boiler in accordance with approved operating procedures
• Perform hourly operational control checks and record readings accurately
• Monitor boiler water levels, pressure, temperature, and combustion conditions
• Perform soot blowing and ash handling operations
• Manage steam demand and time control with Production

Fuel, Waste, and Yard Management:

• Control coal storage, handling, and feeding systems
• Manage waste yard activities and ensure orderly material flow
• Maintain housekeeping standards within the boiler house and external yard areas

Inspection, Safety, and Compliance:

• Conduct daily boiler and auxiliary equipment inspections
• Identify, report, and mitigate safety, operational, and environmental hazards
• Participate in basic fire-fighting and emergency response activities
• Ensure safe operation in line with site safety procedures and legal requirements

Cleaning and Housekeeping:

• Clean the boiler, boiler house, and surrounding operational areas
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work environment

What It Takes to Succeed:

Experience that set you up for success:                       

• Minimum of 2 years’ practical experience operating industrial boilers
• Sound knowledge of mechanical systems and boiler operations

Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:

• N3 Engineering Studies qualification or Technical Matric (trade-related)
• Valid John Thompson Boiler Operator qualification (or equivalent)
