Boiler Operator at Distell

Job Description

Applications are invited for the above mentioned position to be based in the Engineering Department at Secondary Production Port Elizabeth.  This person will report to the Maintenance Foreman.

Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:

•  Operate and control coal boilers on a shift basis
•  Ash removal and ensure continuous coal supply
•  Start/stop steam supply to plant.
•  Perform and reporting on required analyses of boiler processes
•  Maintaining of MDT area and update of information
•  Responsible for housekeeping in work area
•  Assist in general maintenance and risk control

The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:

•  1-2 years relevant experience in operating a boiler and executing basic maintenance on boiler.
•  Be able to work in a technical environment. (Basic tool handling skills).
•  Filling in forms, reading pressure gauges and ability to interpret graphs.
•  Ability to initiate action without being urged on to do so.
•  The successful candidate will be required to work shifts.(evenings and weekends included)
•  Discipline and motivation to work on your own for long periods without supervision
•  Computer literacy would be advantageous
•  Have reliable mode of  transport to workplace
•  Excellent health
•  Must be an action & self-driven, motivated person
•  Ability to cope with the inherent physical demands of the position
•  Must be (telephonically) contactable at all times.
•  A desire to achieve beyond expectations

Qualification required:

•  Minimum Grade 12 qualification
•  John Thompson Operator certificate or equivalent.
