    Bookkeeper - Junior Payroll Administrator - Durban (72949)

    • A well-established and diversified South African business is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper / Junior Payroll Administrator to join its small, professional team.
    • The business manages a portfolio of South African and offshore entities, including property-owning entities, start-up businesses and trusts. The successful candidate will work within a professional, open-plan and collaborative environment characterised by a flat structure, direct communication and a strong focus on accountability and achieving outcomes.
    • This is a varied role suited to someone who is comfortable taking ownership of both bookkeeping and payroll administration, while also assisting with general office and employee-related administration.

    Key Responsibilities

    Bookkeeping & Financial Administration

    • Process and reconcile cashbooks.
    • Capture and process supplier invoices.
    • Reconcile supplier accounts.
    • Prepare payment packs and supporting documentation.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
    • Complete general filing and financial administration.
    • Provide ad hoc administrative support as required.

    Payroll Administration

    • Gather and verify all payroll input data.
    • Process monthly payroll accurately and timeously.
    • Calculate commissions, shift allowances, overtime, increases, bonuses and other payroll adjustments.
    • Prepare and process all payroll-related payments.
    • Generate payroll reports and provide relevant payroll information to management and consultants.
    • Monitor and maintain employee leave balances.
    • Maintain accurate employee payroll records.
    • Maintain and update payroll systems.
    • Assist employees with payroll-related queries.
    • Manage payroll-related filing and documentation.
    • Attend to payroll-related SARS audits and verification requests.
    • Ensure payroll-related statutory compliance requirements are met.
    • Attend to Provident Fund, Medical Aid and other third-party submissions.
    • Maintain effective relationships with brokers and relevant service providers.
    • Compile and provide information required by consultants for EMP501 submissions, Workmen's Compensation and Employment Equity requirements.

    Office & Employee Administration

    • Arrange and oversee office and property maintenance.
    • Assist with coordinating the employee social calendar and company events.
    • Assist with employee gifting and related arrangements.
    • Maintain accurate employee records.
    • Provide general administrative support to the management team as required.

    Minimum Requirements

    • 5+ years' relevant experience in bookkeeping and payroll administration.
    • A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Payroll or a related field- Diploma or Degree.
    • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work with formulas.
    • Practical experience with payroll processing and related statutory requirements.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Good understanding of payroll administration and financial record keeping.
