A leading payment solutions company is seeking an experienced Business Development Lead to join their team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving transaction growth by managing key client relationships and onboarding high-volume billers.
This role requires a strategic thinker who can also execute at a detailed level, with strong commercial acumen and a deep understanding of the payments environment.
Responsibilities:
Drive transaction growth across existing billers and payment channels (retail and digital).
Identify, source, and onboard new high-volume billers.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor.
Develop and manage strategic partnerships with banks, referral partners, and other stakeholders.
Identify and implement innovative solutions to enhance and expand service offerings.
Act as the primary liaison between clients/prospects and internal teams.
Collaborate with marketing to strengthen brand presence and support growth initiatives.
Ensure smooth operational delivery for all biller-related activities.
Monitor, analyse, and report on sales performance, opportunities, and forecasts.
Requirements:
Relevant tertiary qualification.
5–8 years’ experience in business development or sales within the payments or financial services industry.
Proven experience in enterprise-level client relationship management and revenue growth.
Strong understanding of the payments environment (retail, digital, banking, card schemes, EFT, settlement, acquiring, etc.).
Valid driver’s license, own transport, and willingness to travel regularly.
Fluent in business English; additional languages will be advantageous.
Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Self-driven, disciplined, and able to manage both strategic and operational responsibilities.
