    Business Unit Head: Energy: ENER50000R

    Minimum Competence requirements & Core Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (at NQF 8) aligned with:
    • MSR2 Level 5 designation of Chief Engineer or Department Head
    • ECSA’s IDoWE, for complex engineering problems and complex engineering activities
    • Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa as a Professional Engineer
    • The MSR stipulates either registration or eligibility for registration with ECSA
    • ECSA’s IDoWE, for complex engineering problems and complex engineering activities requires registration as Professional Engineer
    • Relevant bachelor’s degree in business or finance (at NQF 7)
    • To enable turnaround of the service and move from a technical department to a functional trading service, a business qualification is essential
    • MFMA minimum competence (or commitment to achieve within 12 months)
    • Computer literacy: MS Office (MSR)
    • A Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or equivalent will be an added advantage.
    • At least 10 years management experience in trading services, of which at least 5 must have been at an Middle Management level, in a management position with similar scope and complexity

    Key performance areas:

    • To provide vision, strategic direction and leadership to the business unit, to drive high performance and provision of world class customer services.
    • Translate organisational strategy into Energy operational objectives, provide strategic direction in meeting Business Unit and organizational objectives and delivery of functional strategic plans.
    • Create, drive and maintain strategic relationships with decision makers and interest groups for purposes of expectation management, knowledge sharing and integration.
    • Communicate a meaningful strategic context that articulates the Business Unit’ purpose and vision in support of COE’s vision & direction and directs best practice.
    • Ensure strategic Energy decisions are dealt with effectively as it relates to operational efficiency.
    • Develop and align the Business Unit operating model and value chain in relation to the organisational mandate in partnership with stakeholders.
    • Implement Business Unit strategy and goals through development, alignment and implementation of department practices, processes and standards.
    • Execute effectively with the Business Unit management team to set strategic objectives and achieve the set strategic objectives and projects.
    • Coordinate development of business plans for the Business Unit.
    • Understanding on a strategic level the as yet unknown changes that will force new directions in the energy distribution value chains.
    • Providing advice to the divisional heads on a strategic and operational level in relation to disruptive forces.
    • Contributing to National Government initiatives in relation to strategy creation in at least the fields related to Energy.
    • Participating in the specialist practice community (including South Africa and internationally) and contributing, where possible, to organisation knowledge management.
    • Responding to any problem that may arise in the Business Unit by analysing and then creating options towards resolution, then actively participating in the practical resolution.
    • Developing operational targets in support of delivery plans and organisational strategic objectives
    • Establishing and managing strategic internal & external relationships inclusive of customer, service provider & relevant legislative agencies & structures
    • Managing an administrative function to meet predetermined requirements, ensuring that organisational demands are met in the short to medium term
    • Developing and driving the implementation and integration of the supply chain and contract management plans
    • Defining a meaningful strategic context that guides and directs best practice, integration, process alignment and service delivery
