    Campaign Manager

    Development and Fundraising Office
    Department Description        

    • Wits University has ambitious advancement and fundraising plans to support the realisation of the visionary strategic aspirations and associated projects that will coincide with the University’s Centenary Celebrations in 2022 and firmly position the University to be locally relevant and globally competitive well into its next century.
    • The Campaign Manager will support the Director in the execution of the university’s strategic fundraising plans by managing at a high level of service quality, all support and operations dimensions of the unit. This includes the internal-facing dimension of all fundraising and related promotional activities and processes as well as campaign management for the Centenary Campaign and subsequent campaigns.

            
    Key responsibilities include:
    Campaign Leadership, Strategy & Co-ordination

    • Working closely with the Director: DFO and the Fundraising Manager to: initiate, deliver, evaluate and report on clusters of related strategic fundraising initiatives, including the Centenary Campaign, and subsequent campaigns.

    Campaign Management & Implementation

    • Working closely with the Fundraising Manager to: manage all stages of DFO fundraising interventions, providing fundraising operations and support, approving key milestones in the process, and ensuring a smooth hand-over across stages, teams, projects and University stakeholders.

    Development Management

    • Effective management of all University relationships leading up to and following on from a fundraising initiative: all marketing and promotions initiatives of the unit; all fundraising intelligence activities, and knowledge management practices.

    Unit Management

    • Effective staff management co-ordinated with efficient systems, IT and financial management to support DFO campaigns and unit capabilities.

    Requirements:

    • At least five years of work-related experience at a senior level
    • At least three years of proven success and substantial experience in fundraising management, advancement management or sales management
    • At least one year of experience at operations management, business management, digital business management or project management
    • High level of written and verbal communication skills in English including proposal writing, report writing, business writing and/or crafting marketing and promotional materials
    • A post-graduate degree or similar qualification (NQF 8)

    • Verbal fluency in more than one official language
    • A valid driving license

    The following qualifications or skills sets will be advantageous:

    • A post-graduate qualification in leadership or management development (NQF 8)
    • A qualification in relevant fields, such as fundraising, sales, branding or business development (NQF 7)
    • Short/ Executive Education courses, certificates or qualifications in any of the following fields: leadership, business management, HR  management, customer service, customer relationship management, quality management, information technology, digital business, business engineering, database management, CRM software, knowledge management, project management, journalism, English, media studies, or commercial law

    Two years’ experience in:

    • customer service management
    • fundraising, sales, marketing, branding or public relations
    • major gift fundraising or high net worth individual sales or customer service
    • social, community or education development, public relations, or marketing work
    • the higher education sector, or post-school education and training sector

    Knowledge or experience of one or more of the DFO donor / funder segments: corporate, government, foundations, individual giving
    Knowledge or experience of one or more of the DFO intervention types: academic support, student support, infrastructure support
    Digital media and communications skills including social media analytics
