The role: CDTV Specialist

• CDTV stands for “Compressed Digital Television”, and within the Managed Services team, the CDTV Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that MultiChoice’s GOtv and DStv broadcasts keep running 24/7/365. You’re responsible for the systems that compress the audio and video to prepare it for broadcast, the systems that encrypt the audio and video, the systems that insert the program-specific service information, and the multiplexers that package it all together into transport streams ready for uplink to various satellites. Your equipment sits at multiple sites, with various redundancy models, serving multiple geographic regions in many different languages and formats.
• The successful candidate has strong technical capabilities, will thrive in a fast-paced high energy environment, is proactive and passionate about delivering world-class deployment and support services to customers; and will work closely with Irdeto Service delivery teams and other key stakeholders within Irdeto, our partners and customers and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.

Your mission at Irdeto:

• Daily system health checks: Checking of DTT Compression platform using various monitoring tools like Dektec, Stream probe, TAG, Dataminer.
• Daily/Monthly checks and redundancy checks to ensure effective operation of compression systems.
• Standby support: Primary support for all DTT queries/issues,
• Project deployment: Assist Senior Specialists in the design and implement of future DTT projects, 
• Governance support: Support the Head-end team with the logging of SMA-X changes. Logging of 3rd party changes for CDTV team. Support CDTV team with Tenable, PAM and Antivirus support.
• Document manuals, software installations, wiring diagrams and cutting sheets.
• SOP writing, review, and updates. Including RCA’s.
• Performs preventative maintenance to all Headend devices and systems.   
• Setup and operate disaster recovery for the DTT platform.
• Setup monitoring and analyses tools
• Tests new products, devices, and systems upgrades.
• Implement and deploy new technologies, devices and system upgrades.
• Keep abreast with relevant technologies and systems.
• Work according to Irdeto quality processes and guidelines as applicable.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Setup and Install rack wiring and rack power including setup APC Power Distribution Units for remote control. 
• Housekeeping and Inventory management of CDTV devices and tools.
• Training customers (Command Centre) on current and new systems. 
• Support DTH team with any installation/maintenance of equipment as required.

Knowledge and Skills we hope you bring:

• Bachelor of Technology in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or National Diploma in Electronic/Electrical Engineering and equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in technical support and implementation of broadcast products and systems.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain professional internal and external relationships that meet Irdeto’s core values.
• Knowledge in Conditional Access Systems (CAS) and Scramblers. 
• Experience in broadcast compression of Linear TV and Direct to Home systems.
• Competent user of the Microsoft suite of Office applications including using Microsoft Visio, Word, and PowerPoint to generate documentation and presentations.
• In-depth knowledge of networking and IP content delivery technologies and systems
• Knowledge contribution of services, transcoding and encoding.
• Experience in troubleshooting of broadcast value chain.
• Experience in troubleshooting IP based network issues.
• Experience in using broadcast analysis tools (DekTec/Stream Probe/DataMiner/TAG) 
• Experience in Linux configuration and administration.
• Experience in Cisco configuration and networks.
• Experience with remote monitoring using Dataminer/Stream Probe/TAG/DekTec. 
• Excellent technical writing ability and presentation skills.

• Microsoft Sharepoint and Atlassian Confluence for Documentation. 
• MultiChoice proprietary protocols such as MSP, ILOTP.
