Central Stores Manager (Inventory & Logistics experience) at Rand Merchant Bank

Plan, direct, control and coordinate activities of team concerned with ordering, receiving, storing inventorying, issuing materials and / or supplies in central stores. Advise employees on care and preservation of items received and storage methods; use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining stock; and related problems. Reviews records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures.

Responsibilities:

Inventory Management

• Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts and reconciling with data storage system
• Plan and control all inventory to ensure sufficient inventory at any given time in line with forecasting stats
• Control all incoming inventory with reference to quality, quantity and requirements as reflected on the purchase order
• Develops warehouse operations systems by deciding product handling and storage requirements; developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating policies and procedures; developing processes for receiving product, equipment utilisation and inventory management
• Develops warehouse operations system improvements by analysing process work flow, manning and space requirements, and equipment layout and implementing changes.

Financial Control            

• Identify losses as a result of wastage and incorrect or excessive purchases and flag these issues timeously
• Studies records and recommends remedial actions for reported non-usable, slow moving and excess stock
• Monthly reporting on stock usage levels and distribution to financial team
• Meets warehouse operations financial goals by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

Service and relationship management   

• Safeguard storeroom operations and contents by setting up and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
• Complies with relevant stores warehousing and handling requirements by staying abreast of existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements and recommending needed actions to management
• Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures, in line with legal regulations.
• Establish and manage relationships with all service providers
• Develop solutions to leverage stock volumes and systems
• Management customer service activities including order entry and customer satisfaction

Team management

• Manage team by executing line manager responsibilities and create an environment that encourages employee growth and performance excellence
• Responsible for coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Diploma with 3 – 5 years related experience
•  3 - 5 years hands-on experience with staff management, stores management and inventory control
• Stores and logistics background essential
• Understanding of labour legislation
• Experience with receving, storing, issuing IT equipment
