    Chief Safety Officer - Projects (Mokopane)

    Job description

    The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

    • Effective cost control through efficient risk management practices
    • Effective self and team management in alignment with M&RC's values and leadership initiatives
    • Effective stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth workflows
    • Effective implementation, monitoring and reporting of all risk and safety processes
    • Conduct accurate, timely risk and legal inspection audits and communicate recommendations
    • Conduct fact finding investigations and determine the cause of trends from investigations
    • Effective and efficient risk administration
    • Proactive risk identification, mitigation and compliance

    Minimum requirements

    Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • National Diploma in Safety / Risk Management or equivalent at NQF Level 6
    • Blasting Certificate
    • COMSOC 1 & 2
    • Audit Certification for ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001
    • Valid Medical certificate of Fitness
    • Covid-19 Coronavirus Vaccination Certificate [Site Specific]
    • Valid First Aid Certificate
    • Proficient in MS Office [Word, Excel]
    • Valid EB driver's license
    • Investigation / Tap Root training (preferred)

    Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

    • At least 5 years Chief Safety Officer experience in a similar role in mining (shaft sinking)
    • Understanding of risk assessment methodologies and principles
    • Understanding of incident and accident techniques
    • Basic knowledge of mining operations and methods
    • Basic knowledge of relevant safety principles and systems
    • Ability to conduct investigation and record findings
    • Knowledge of strata control
    • Hazard identifications skills
    • Analytical with sound attention to detail
    • Objective, with strong logical reasoning skills
    • Observant and perceptive
    • Performance and achievement driven
    • Emotionally mature
    • Assertive and independent
    • Sound interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
    • Problem solving mind-set with ability to make recommendation
    • Sound knowledge of Rand mutual processes
    • Knowledge and understanding of Strata control
