PURPOSE OF ROLE
The purpose of this position is to conceive, design and produce quality technical outputs to satisfy our client’s requirements, within the boundaries of the relevant codes, standards and internal engineering processes and sound engineering practice. The purpose includes supervision of and advice to site activities, including construction and implementation. The position is a technical role, with interface and liaison with colleagues, clients, suppliers, and providers.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Prepare design specifications in response to a proper engineering analysis of the scope, work requirements and solution options. This includes a description and definition of the order of work, physical conditions on site, construction work schedules, form of contract, method of payment and measurement, construction procedures, special methods and coordination with contractors and other stakeholders.
- Conceive, plan, design, and detail civil engineering solutions from conception to Bill of Quantities and working (construction) drawings, using the principles and disciplines of civil engineering, including geomatics, geotechnical investigation, materials selection and testing, and design of earthworks, foundations, drainage, services, and structures.
- Liaise and coordinate the planning, design, and implementation of solutions with the client/owner, suppliers, and colleagues from other disciplines.
- Prepare documents for procurement and implementation, including scope of work-, tender, RFQ-, contract and project management documentation, and participate in the adjudication of suppliers, tenders, and quotations.
- Provide site supervision and advice for construction and implementation projects and contribute to client and supplier liaison, inter alia at project- and site meetings.
- Lead and assist the preparation of project proposals, tenders, and quotations.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- BSc (Eng), B Eng or B Tech Eng degree in Civil Engineering
- Registered or eligible for registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer
- 5 years relevant multi-disciplinary project and design experience in civil engineering, preferably in industrial, mining or manufacturing settings.
- Working knowledge of OHS Act and Mines Health & Safety Act
- Working knowledge of the relevant SANS codes, ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 45001:2018
- Working knowledge of COTO:2020 Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Works
- Working knowledge of standards and methodologies for geomatics and geotechnical investigations
- Microsoft Office suite of applications, including project management.
- Working knowledge of computer-aided design software, eg Autocad Civil 3D, Civil Designer or similar
