Qualifications & Experience
Senior Civil Engineers Representative: Bsc (Hons) Eng/BEng/B. Tech and Pr Eng/Pr technologist in Civil Engineering and 10 years post registration experience .
Civil Engineers Representative: Bsc (Hons) Eng/BEng/B. Tech/NDip and Pr Eng/Pr technologist/Pr Tech in Civil Engineering and 5 years post registration experience.
Civil Junior Engineers Representative: Bsc (Hons) Eng/BEng/B. Tech/NDip in Civil Engineering and 6 years post qualification experience.
Capabilities
Competence in the supervision of:
Roads and Stormwater,
Railways & Bulk Earthworks
Sewerage & Water Networks
Pipelines
Familiarity with:
SABS 1200 and COLTO Standard Specifications
SAICE General Conditions of Contract (GCC)
FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Construction
Familiarity with the following software as a minimum:
Microsoft Word and Excel
Microsoft Project
AutoCAD
Site Administration
Technical Duties
Good understanding of:
the design principles of all aspects of the work and site investigation data;
the Standard Specifications;
the principles of Setting Out the Works, using the basic beacons and bench marks and be capable of conducting independent spot checks to ensure the Contractor’s accuracy in setting out; and
temporary works needing to be carried out by the Contractor.
Quality Control
Be fully conversant with the Contractor’s progressive activities and the ability to carry out regular thorough inspections of the Works in progress,
Have the ability to confirm the required materials properties and to ensure the taking of samples for testing where required, and
Competence in testing procedures relating to road and rail works, pipeline backfill compaction, hydraulic pressure test for water pipes and air test for sewers.
Administrative Duties
Competence in:
Progress monitoring;
Compilation of competent reports when required;
Keeping accurate records of all site activities, including daily site diary;
Maintaining an accurate filing system for correspondence and Site Instructions;
Maintaining an accurate drawing register and the filing of relevant drawings;
Maintaining accurate records of the Contractor’s measurements;
Maintaining a photographic record of the contract;
The preparation of accurate progress reports for presentation at site meetings;
Preparation of accurate “As-Built” drawings and information;
Preparation of monthly financial reports if required; and
The taking of accurate minutes at site meetings and to record these.
Contractual Matters
Good knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its application,
Maintaining accurate records relating to Daywork where applicable,
Preparation of accurate reports relating to potential claims,
Performance of thorough checks of the Works on completion
Conducting the procedures involved with the preparation of snag lists and the staged issuing of Certificates of Completion.
