Civil Engineer (Structures and Bridges) - Pretoria at SMEC

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and lead small teams consisting of Technicians, Students, Draughtsmen, and Graduates.
• Provide guidance and support to Technicians, Graduate Technologists, and/or Graduate Engineers in the utilization of relevant software tools.
• Review and assess the work completed by other team members.
• Enhance design proficiency and uphold high-quality standards.
• Prepare technical reports with both technical accuracy and effective presentation.
• Make technical judgments and offer solutions rather than delivering final outcomes.
• Capable of presenting and representing technical work effectively.
• Draft responses for straightforward bids, seeking assistance with commercial aspects as needed.
• Gain understanding of the commercial dimensions of project management.
• Acquire knowledge about Functional Unit technologies and market dynamics.
• Conduct inspections to ensure constructed works comply with design and specifications.
• Oversee construction administration and monitoring processes.
• Prepare tenders for construction projects, including Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and specifications.
• Create tender bids for clients, including preliminary cost estimates.
• Develop internal standards and ensure their implementation.

Recommended Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

• Bachelor of Engineering degree/higher degree from accredited university/college
• Minimum 3 years of practical experience
• Experience in Bridge and Structural Engineering
• Advantageous to have experience in pedestrian bridges, highway structures and rail structures
• Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets
• Knowledge of basic project management and the use of project management software
