    Clinical Engineer - Randburg

    Job Description:

    The Clinical Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of medical equipment and technology used in patient care. This position involves collaborating with healthcare professionals, biomedical technicians, and equipment vendors to maintain, repair, and optimize medical devices, thereby supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.
    With a focus on maintenance, quality assurance, and technical support, this position contributes to the hospital's mission of providing high-quality healthcare services to the community.

    Qualifications/Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
    • Certification as a Clinical engineer (CCE) or equivalent professional credential preferred.
    • 3-5 years of experience in biomedical engineering or clinical engineering role, preferably in a healthcare setting
    • Proficiency in medical equipment troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance techniques.
    • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements for medical devices (e.g., FDA, ISO, IEC).
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
    • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
    • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of clinical engineering.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Equipment Maintenance and Repair:

    • Conduct routine inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance of medical equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and manufacturers' specifications.
    • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunction, coordinating with manufacturers and vendors for repairs as necessary.
    • Document maintenance activities, including equipment history, service records, and inventory management.
    • Management of Service Level Agreements and Service Contracts.
    • Interaction and liaison with suppliers, doctors and staff.

    Technology Integration and Implementation:

    • Evaluate new medical technologies and equipment for suitability within the hospital’s infrastructure and clinical workflows.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate new equipment into patient care processes, providing training and support to healthcare staff as needed.
    • Ensure seamless interoperability between medical devices, electronic health records (EHR), and other health information systems.

    Quality Assurance and Risk Management:

    • Implement quality control measures to monitor the performance and reliability of medical equipment, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
    • Participate in risk assessments and safety evaluations of medical devices, following established protocols for incident reporting and adverse event management.
    • Stay abreast of regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to medical device safety and risk management.
