Cloud Solution Architect at Vodacom

Role Purpose

• The Cloud Solution Architect is responsible for translating business requirements into end-to-end technology solutions using well defined architecture frameworks. The purpose of this role is to design and implement analytics and ML/AI cloud computing solutions. This includes designing the cloud infrastructure, the cloud application architecture and cloud security architecture. This role will drive the overall data analytics and ML/AI cloud based solutions that effectively satisfy the business requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Craft a well-informed analytics and ML/AI cloud strategy and manage the change process.
• Regularly evaluate the analytics/ML/AI cloud applications, hardware, and software.
• Develop and organize analytics/ML/AI cloud systems.
• Work closely with IT security to monitor the company's cloud privacy.
• Offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques including bulk application transfers into the cloud.
• Identify the top analytics and ML/AI cloud architecture solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of the company.
• Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
• Drive technical discussions and explain best approaches to solutions and product options to meet business needs.
• Manage technical decisions regarding the solution and the impact they have on the business outcomes. The information is used by the development team for implementation of solutions.
• Document and evolve solutions design throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Define and implement best practices relating to cloud economics, software engineering, and data engineering to ensure a well architected cloud framework with data management practices built in to each design.
• Work with the development team to evolve the cloud analytics and ML/AI capabilities (reusable assets/patterns) and components to support the business requirements/objectives.
• Research, investigate and evaluate new technologies and methods to improve delivery and sustainability of data applications and services
• Make contributions to the process of defining best practice for the agile development of Datawarehouse and Big Data applications.
• Explain complex problems to management in the simplest possible terms.
• Work in collaboration with the Group Lead Architect and Enterprise Architecture to meet overall Enterprise strategic direction.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

• 3 year IT or IS degree or diploma or related field is essential.
• Post graduate qualification within the Data field would be advantageous.
• 10+ years of overall IT experience with Big Data, Advance Analytics, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence. 
• Relevant cloud certification at professional or associate level.
• Agile exposure, Kanban or Scrum

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

• In-depth knowledge of data as a product & Information best practices.
• Expert level experience in designing, building and maintaining of On-premise and Cloud service based solutions.
• Solid expertise using the Cloud well architecture frameworks.
• Solid experience within the ML and Analytics lifecycle capabilities such as Data Pipelines, Data Processing, Data Storing, Model Lifecycle, Data Operations, Data Management & Data Governance.
• Experience in using a wide range for data tools such as Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Cassandra, Airflow, Kafka, AWS services, GCP Services, etc.
• Experience working with serverless services such as Openshift, GCP or AWS
• Require process as well as people skills.
• Being able to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
• Java and Python programming ability would be an advantage
