Purpose Of The Position

• Reporting to the Head: Strategic Resources (Forests), the candidate will ensure compliance with all relevant water-related legislation for the Forestry Operation with an aim of continuous improvement in water related legislative compliance.

Essential Qualification

• Honours degree (Water compliance &/or Water Stewardship related)

Job Experience

• 5 years’ experience in water related compliance. Must include experience in water resource management (or water stewardship)

Responsibilities / Kpas

• Coordinates strategic and day-to-day Water Use Compliance activities for MSA Forestry Operations.
• Establishes, coordinates and ensures completion of a Water Use Compliance Project to ensure compliance with water use legislation for existing activities in the forestry operations
• Establishes, coordinates and ensures effective ongoing implementation of a Water Use Compliance Management System for new developments and activities in the forestry operations
• Stays abreast of, and interprets water and other environmental related policies and legislation for strategic and day-to-day water use compliance.
• Coordinates effective reporting on water use compliance status and projects at key management meetings (e.g. OPCO, Forestry Operations Units, and Area meetings).
• Builds relationships internally (e.g. Operations, Technical, Land, Legal), and relationships and partnerships externally (e.g. government, legal service providers).
• Facilitates learning opportunities for foresters/contractors/technical to ensure ongoing visibility and understanding of the Water Use Compliance management system (as an integral part of MSA Forestry’s Integrated Management System)
• Supports the preparation for, and participation in legal compliance audits, and external certification audits
• Carries out other reasonable tasks, as required by Line Management

Job Competencies / Attributes/Skills – Essential

• Working knowledge of and experience in water and other environmental related legislation, as it relates to water use compliance in forestry operations management or similar production environment
• Technical expertise in, and working knowledge of water use compliance administration from a government perspective
• Computer proficiency, including in the understanding and use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint as essential tools
• Desirable: GIS and/or database management and analysis
• Valid driver’s license
