    Consultant – One Health and NTDs

    Purpose of consultancy

    • To contribute to the operationalisation of One health for the prevention, control and management of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) that have a human - animal - environmental interface with a special focus on the parasitic zoonotic diseases.

    Deliverables

    • Deliverable 1 – Contribute to data collection, monitoring and evaluation. Provide technical advice during the regional review of the draft T. solium Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) plan, incorporate the feedback and produce the final report. Work with WHO editors, graphic designers and technical staff to prepare the final output document for publication. Based on the selected indicators, develop a T. solium and foodborne trematodes country data collection forms. Provide guidance to the regions and countries in the use of the newly developed form to collect echinococcosis data.  

    Expected by: Regional review by August 2023, final report by February 2024.

    • Deliverable 2 – Provide expert technical input on program implementation: Provide technical expertise to regions and countries on country planning and accessing the donation of medicines programme for parasitic zoonoses. Hold regular biweekly coordination calls with the focal points on parasitic neglected zoonoses in all regions. Provide technical advice to countries in topics such as: mapping of T. solium, implementation of preventive chemotherapy, implementation of One Health programs, diagnostics, funding applications.  

    Expected by: until May 2024. 

    • Deliverable 3 – Finalise the release of the Open WHO course on T. solium and organise dissemination activities, facilitate regional training on the management of adverse events and case management of neurocysticercosis, and  actively disseminate the relevant guidelines. Provide any relevant regional training and participate in regional webinars as requested by the regional focal points. 

    Expected by: OpenWHO dissemination by July 2023, regional training by November 2023.

    • Deliverable 4 – Contribute to the Diagnostic Technical Advisory (DTAG) group on TPP design including public consultation and preparation of updated TPP documents for T. solium. To collate and review all public comments received during an open consultation and prepare a synthesis of the material.  To incorporate any changes recommended into the final documents, and liaise with WHO editors, graphics designers, and technical staff to prepare the final documents for publication on the WHO website.  

    Expected by: February 2024.

    • Deliverable 5 – Identify opportunities and synergies, and further develop concepts for implementing NTD activities using a One-Health approach. 

    Expected by: May 2023.
    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages
    Educational Qualifications:
    Essential:

    • Advanced university degree in veterinary, medicine, life sciences or related field.

    Experience
    Essential:

    • Over 10 years of relevant experience working on zoonotic disease prevention, control and management and in NTDs / One Health.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    • Advanced writing skills.
    • Knowledge of available tools

    Languages required:
    Essential:  

    • Expert knowledge of English.

    Desirable:

    • Expert knowledge of another WHO official language.
