Curator (Ornithology) at eThekwini Municipality

Job Purpose    

• Applies academic knowledge to develop the natural science collection at the Natural Science Museum through alignment and monitoring the execution of the work programmes.

Key Responsibility Areas    

• Aligns or defines key programmes priorities with regards to maintaining standards andcomplying with practices and principles associated with museology.
• Co-ordinates and controls tasks/activities associated with controlling personnel performance, productivity and discipline.
• Conducts research or partners international and local academics during collaborative studies.
• Develops and monitors the execution of applications and procedures associated with the acquisition, restoration and exhibition of specimens and artefacts.
• Disseminates information and knowledge on the natural science field of study.
• Co-ordinates specific administrative and reporting requirements associated operational key performance and result indicators.

Essential Requirements    

• Master of Science (NQF Level 9) in Zoology with some relevance to Ornithology or Taxonomy or Systematics.
• Registration with SACNASP as Professional Natural Scientist.
• Valid motor vehicle driving license
• 4 Years relevant experience.
• Computer Literacy.

Preferred Requirements    

• Doctor of Philosophy (NQF 10) in Zoology specializing in Ornithology or Taxonomy or Systematics.
• 5 Years relevant experience.
• Must have published a research paper in scientific journals.
