    DC Manager: Outbound

    My client a well-known retailer in SA is looking for a highly talented & energetic AA or EE Distribution Centre Manager: Outbound responsible for the overall management & coordination of all warehousing functions in the Outbound area in the Cape Town DC.

    Key Duties:

    • Manage 3 Direct Reports and roughly +-300 staff members with regards to picking & despatch
    • Proven track record of successfully implementing operational best practices in a distribution and warehousing environment
    • Identifying, implementing & managing optimal processes & procedures, to minimize costs and maximize working capital
    • Responsible for efficiently managing all aspects of stock handling from picking stock orders to shipping & dispatching of parcels and associated processes
    • Ensure daily, weekly & monthly planning is done for all Outbound operations including but not limited to, resource planning, departmental organisational design, relief planning, seasonal planning and manage adherence to plans.
    • Effective management of housekeeping including but not limited to frequent engagement with OHS Officer, design, implementation & audit of departmental standards in accordance with business objectives.
    • Management of resources to be effective & efficient at lowest cost and according to changing needs
    • Effective leadership and direction for the operations team through involvement & communication to deliver on the relevant key business drivers.
    • Manage customer liaison process & ensure that Outbound queries are resolved timeously & exception trends are addressed & resolved.
    • Ensure that warehouse space, equipment & warehouse flow is optimized & that future warehouse requirements are planned.
    • Ensure stock accuracy through disciplined stock control & implement stock accuracy improvement initiatives.
    • Measure & manage staff through formal staff appraisals, development, coaching & disciplinary procedures.
    • Assert and drive accountability in all levels of staff
    • Ensure that all business processes, procedures & job profiles are documented, updated & communicated to staff.
    • Management reporting in terms of operational performance, productivity, stock control & budgets.
    • Participate in annual budget process and long-term planning; control monthly operational costs to stay within budget.
    • Efficient and safe operation of DC automation systems
    • Cost effective and accurate use-, forecasting- and procurement of packaging consumables in line with budget plans & volume projections.
    • Manage projects according to stipulated time frames.
    • Liaising & negotiating with suppliers where required
    • Conform to all Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards & legislation as set out by the business & the OHS Act
    • Drive continuous improvement measures within the department
    • Engagement with internal stakeholders including but not limited to, national operations, human resources, risk & security and other relevant support functions

    Essential Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree / ND: Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or Logistics required.
    • 8-10 years’ experience in Supply Chain Operations
    • 5 years’ experience in operational project management
    • 5+ years’ experience in directly managing people to deliver continuous improvement (Lean principles, 5S, multiskilling, cost saving drives)
    • ERP systems knowledge and fine picking experience

    Salary: 720K
