    Desktop Publishing Operator

    Job Description    

    • Tekkie Town is seeking to employ a DTP Operator who will be responsible for translating design concepts and raw content into high-quality, print-ready and digital-ready artwork for various retail marketing and communication materials. 
    • This role ensures the accurate layout, formatting, and technical preparation of all visual assets, adhering to brand guidelines, production specifications, and deadlines. Working in the design / studio team this role enables consistency of brand experience across digital, and traditional marketing mediums assisting agency and internal teams. 

    Qualifications    

    • A relevant tertiary qualification or certificate in Desktop Publishing, Graphic Design, Print Production, or a related field.

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience    

    • Minimum of 1-2 years of proven experience as a DTP Operator or similar role within a fast-paced environment, preferably in retail, agency, or print production.
    • Strong portfolio demonstrating proficiency in DTP and pre-press tasks.
    • Experience working with large volumes of artwork and managing multiple projects concurrently.
    • In-depth knowledge of desktop publishing software, particularly Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) on a Mac platform.
    • Strong understanding of typography, layout, colour theory (CMYK, RGB, Spot Colours), and image manipulation.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of pre-press processes, print production techniques, and file preparation for various printing methods (e.g., litho, digital, large format).
    • Understanding of bleed, trim, safe areas, image resolution, and colour profiles.
    • Basic understanding of graphic design principles.
    • Awareness of current trends in design and retail visual merchandising.
    • Knowledge of legal requirements related to advertising and consumer information (e.g., CPA for product labelling where applicable).

    Key Responsibilities    

    • Expert-level skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Knowledge of QuarkXPress or CorelDRAW may be an advantage.
    • Meticulous eye for accuracy in layout, text, colours, and technical specifications.
    • Highly organised with excellent file management and archiving practices.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines efficiently.
    • Ability to identify and resolve technical issues with files and software.
    • Clear and concise verbal and written communication, especially when liaising with designers, clients, and printers.
    • Ability to quickly learn new software or processes and adapt to changing project requirements.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with creative and production teams.
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative to ensure smooth workflow.
