DevOps Engineer CXT at Investec

Description

• Investec Sandton is looking for a DevOps Engineer in the CXT Team who will support and innovate on application, platform delivery and availability across our global online platform. This will include software lifecycle enablement via solid CI/CD principles; automate operational areas into a self-service approach for teams; proactively review and identify areas of improvement with a strong focus on our cloud strategy; infrastructure and security design including implementation and management; respond to platform support and events as well as recover systems and applications within agreed SLA's. This all within a DevOps mindset and SRE approach that is being matured and suited to the Digital landscape with a client centric vision. The role functions in a great team dynamic, driven by people, learning and collective ownership. 

Responsibilities include: 

• Design and build internal developer platform capabilities that abstract infrastructure complexity and provide golden paths for deployment, guided by DevOps principles and platform engineering best practices 
• Define and implement observability strategy across the platform, including SLI/SLO frameworks, golden signals, and automated telemetry that enables teams to understand system health without becoming observability experts 
• Develop automation and CI/CD pipelines that balance standardization with flexibility, ensuring platform users can deploy confidently with minimal toil
• Respond to events and monitoring alerts to recover systems and applications within agreed timeframes, performing platform standby functions and partnering with Application Support teams to maintain availability 
• Act as a technical product owner for platform capabilities, gathering feedback from internal customers and translating developer pain points into platform improvements 
• Build and maintain infrastructure as code patterns and reusable modules that become the foundation for consistent, reliable deployments across teams 
• Work closely with development teams throughout the SDLC, providing consultation on architecture, deployment strategies, and production readiness 
• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support throughout the release process, with strong diagnostic abilities across the full stack
• Create comprehensive documentation and self-service resources that enable engineering teams to be autonomous and successful on the platform 
• Design for system integration, understanding dependencies and failure modes that influence availability and reliability 

Skills
Platform & DevOps Engineering: 

• Strong grasp of DevOps/SRE methodologies, platform engineering principles, and developer experience design 
• Proven experience designing CI/CD pipelines and deployment patterns at scale 
• Intermediate to advanced Kubernetes knowledge, including operator patterns and multi-tenancy considerations 
• Infrastructure as Code expertise (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates)

Cloud & Infrastructure: 

• Strong Microsoft Azure experience (AKS, Azure DevOps, networking, IAM, cost management)
• Understanding of CDNs and edge computing (Cloudflare Workers, caching strategies, security features) 
• Network design, load balancing, and security architecture knowledge
• Web security, DNS, SSL/TLS, and web protocols (HTTP/S, gRPC) 

Observability & Reliability: 

• Experience designing observability systems and defining SLIs/SLOs that reflect user experience
• Understanding telemetry strategies: logs, metrics, traces, and their correlation 
• Knowledge of monitoring tools (Dynatrace, SPLUNK, Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor, or similar)
• Incident management and post-incident review facilitation 

Technical Depth: 

• Windows Server and Linux administration in containerized environments 
• Ability to read, debug, and occasionally write code in .NET/C#, JavaScript, Python, Bash, or PowerShell 
• Strong Git workflow knowledge and source control best practices 
• Understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging patterns 

Soft Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication - ability to explain technical trade-offs to varied audiences 
• Product mindset with focus on internal customer needs and developer productivity 
• Strong collaboration and relationship building across engineering teams
