Job Description

• The ideal team player will be responsible to assist the Diesel mechanic with diagnose and repair mechanical faults of diesel vehicles as well as conduct their routine maintenance in alignment with predefined work objectives (as per agreed standard operating procedures). 

Requirements

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 Equivalent.
• N3 certificate or equivalent qualification in Diesel mechanic job path.
• The applicant should be in a good physical condition, an independent worker, self-motivated, able to work under pressure and without supervision.
• Position requires willingness to work long hours, incl. weekends where requested. And overtime as needed for breakdowns in 24 hours shifts.
• Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines and vehicles.
• Be willing to learn new skills.
• Microsoft office literate.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Attend daily meetings for job planning.
• Assist with Inspect, test, and listen to defective engines/parts to diagnose malfunctions.
• Repair the fault using existing parts where possible.
• Replace broken parts with new and reconditioned parts.
• Troubleshoot of hydraulic systems of Front loaders and Forklifts
• Troubleshoot of engines, transmissions and differentials.
• Troubleshoot of electrical wiring of vehicles.
• Retest vehicles to ensure problem has been repaired.
• Conduct routine maintenance checks on vehicles according to the relevant standard operating procedure.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
• Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
• Identify any mechanical problems and obtain authorization to carry out the necessary repairs whilst conducting these routine checks.
• Maintain of preventative maintenance procedures to minimize breakdowns
• Carry out root cause analysis of breakdowns to stop re-occurrence of faults.
• Ensure all work is carried according to SHEQ and company standards.
• Ensure vehicle/equipment safety procedures are followed to avoid damage to engine components.
• Operate equipment and carry out all duties in a safe manner.
• Maintain tools, protective clothing and work areas in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
• Housekeeping in and around the workshop and were there were worked in the plants.
• Completion of timesheets for jobs completed.
• Completion and Up to date Maintain of ISO checklists.
• Maintain good utilisation of job hours.
• Any other ad hoc duties as may be required by management, which may include, but not limited to, housekeeping of garden and site, general site housekeeping, painting of infrastructure etc.
