    Director: Student Life - Mahikeng Campus (M000479)

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Student governance and leadership development
    • Align campus student governance to overall university student governance strategy and goals.
    • Support campus student governance structure to enable student delivery to student body.
    • Ensure the development of a campus student governance ethos that is aligned to the overall student governance culture of the NWU.

    Development of student residence life

    • Ensure the development of a student residence life which is welcoming, promotes unity, critical diversity literacy, respect for and promotion of human rights and the NWU values. 
    • Ensure aligned approach across campuses in respect of the residence culture through appropriate staff attributes, student leader attributes, processes and procedures.

    Oversight of student counselling and development and student health service delivery

    • Ensure an effective and proactive and supportive student counselling and health services which enables student success, health and holistic development. 

    Oversight of recreational sport management and development

    • Promote the development of sports to strengthen unity within and across campuses of the NWU.
    • Develop student attributes compatible with NWU values through the promotion and development of recreation and competitive sport.
    • Optimize the media profiling capacity of the different sporting codes.

    Oversight of art and culture management and development

    • Promote a vibrant and a balanced Student Life on campus, integration within and across campuses, and the development of student characteristics aligned to NWU values.
    • Harness existing platforms to promote creativity, healthy lifestyles, unity, celebration of diversity and enhancement of social cohesion.

    Oversight and Management of Student Media

    • Transformation of traditional platforms and engagements within Student Life by harnessing digital mechanisms and tools to increase students' online engagements.
    • Promote voluntary student participation in student media platforms.
    • Ensure sustainable operational and funding mechanisms for campus media initiatives.
    • Ensure cross campus synergy through Student Media.

    Manage Student Community Engagement

    • Promote voluntary student community engagement in line with
    • Promote sustainability and ethical practices in all Student Life activities.
    • Ensure effective functioning of student societies with respect to community engagement.

    External and Internal Relationship Management and Networking

    • Establish implement and maintain effective data management systems relating to the operational planning of co-curricular programmes and activities, both at campus and institutional levels.
    • Identify and ensure improvement of new relationships through continued networking with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Continued management of key internal and external stakeholder relationships.

    Risk and Compliance Management

    • Ensure effective and efficient management of risks,
    • compliance and business continuity in respect to Student Life operations and the general University operational imperatives.

    Minimum requirements

    • A master’s degree in Social Sciences OR Education OR Management OR Business OR Administration (NQF Level 9).
    • A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience within student life, student affairs or student support services in the higher education environment.
    • A minimum of five (5) years’ management experience.
    • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in organizing, coordinating and providing administration support within student affairs and services programmes at tertiary level.

    • Membership with the South African Association of Senior Student Affairs Professionals (SAASSAP) OR the National Association for Student Development Professionals (NASDEV) OR the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International South Africa Chapter (ACUHU-I SAC) the Federation of Association of Private Schools Administrators (FAPSA) OR the Southern African Association for Counselling and Development in Higher Education (SAACDHE) OR the South African Association of Campus Health Services (SAACHS) OR the Higher Education Disability Services Association (HEDSA) OR the United Services Automobile Association (USSSA).
