    Educational Psychologist - CPT

    Key performance areas

    Psychoeducational assessment and psychometry

    • Conduct assessments within the scope of practice of educational psychologists.
    • Cover areas such as cognitive, emotional, social, personality, behavioural, developmental, and neuropsychological functioning.
    • Provide assessments in contexts such as career guidance and school readiness.

    Intervention and prevention (individuals, groups, families)

    • Deliver prevention and intervention activities to enhance learning and development.
    • Address topics such as ADHD, learning barriers, autism, and trauma.
    • Provide therapy (individual/group), bereavement counselling, trauma counselling, family therapy, parent training, and career development.
    • Implement learning support plans for learners with diverse needs.

    Prevention and development (groups, systems, communities)

    • Design, implement, and evaluate preventative programmes for staff, parents, and learners.
    • Facilitate workshops on life skills such as study methods, stress management, conflict resolution, communication, time management, and parenting skills.

    Trans-disciplinary teamwork

    • Collaborate as part of the school-based support team.
    • Engage with professionals across government, private, and welfare organisations.

    Case management, reporting, and administration

    • Conduct history-taking and consultations with parents, families, and learners.
    • Administer, score, and interpret cognitive, emotional, and educational instruments.
    • Write assessment reports and make recommendations for interventions.
    • Maintain therapy plans, process notes, files, and programme development records.
    • Ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards.

    Professional development and research

    • Maintain CPD points as required by the HPCSA.

    Ethics and legislation

    • Stay up to date with ethical and legal requirements of educational psychology practice.

    Supervision

    • Engage in personal supervision to ensure professional capacity and well-being, in line with HPCSA recommendations.

    Qualifications, experience and skills

    • Minimum qualification: Master’s degree in Educational Psychology.
    • Registration: HPCSA registered Educational Psychologist.
    • Experience: At least 2 years teaching experience.
    • Advantageous: Counselling experience.
