Job Description

• A leading food manufacturing company is looking for an experienced EHS Specialist with strong experience in environmental, health and safety compliance within a fast-paced production environment to join their team in Pretoria. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving safety standards on the ground, ensuring compliance, and working cross-functionally to identify risks, implement solutions, and promote a strong safety culture across the operation.

Responsibilities:

• Identify, assess, and mitigate health, safety, and environmental risks within the facility
• Enforce compliance with EHS policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
• Drive a proactive safety culture through continuous monitoring and engagement on the production floor
• Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventative actions
• Collaborate with production, engineering, finance, and HR teams to ensure alignment on EHS objectives
• Develop and manage EHS budgets in collaboration with finance
• Ensure timely completion of tasks, reporting, and compliance documentation
• Provide practical, on-the-ground problem solving in a high-pressure manufacturing environment

Requirements:

• Proven experience in an EHS role within manufacturing (food production preferred)
• Strong working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation
• Ability to work independently with a proactive, self-driven approach
• Strong bias for action with excellent follow-through
• Confident in enforcing rules while maintaining professional relationships
• Resilient and able to handle pressure and conflict effectively
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to work cross-functionally and build effective working relationships
• Hands-on approach with a strong work ethic
