POSITION DESCRIPTION

• Managing the physical assets under his control with regards to running order, preservation and increasing plant efficiency with a specific focus on electrical, control, instrumentation and automation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Electrical Engineering
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Electrical & Computer Engineering
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mechatronics
• Experience will include a minimum of 4 years’ experience within a 24 hour manufacturing plant, as part of the maintenance team  (electrical & instrumentation).
• Experience will include a minimum of 1 year team leadership/ management within a 24 hour manufacturing plant, as part of the maintenance team  (electrical & instrumentation).
• Programmable Logical Controller programming training course, with a minimum of 2 years programming experience (Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLC’s will be advantageous).
• Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition software programming experience of minimum 2 years.
• Computer literacy essential.
• Be able to interact and communicate effectively on all levels

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ensure smooth and efficient maintenance operation of Cape Town Factory.
• Manage a team of electrical artisans and foremen to ensure optimal performance in the department.
• Perform other tasks around plant improvement as specified by the Engineering Manager.
• Maintain a high standard of discipline and adherence to company procedures and required safety standards.
• Standby support for major breakdowns.
• Generate reports from SCADA system/ SQL server for production analysis as required by management.
• Ensure a clean and organised work environment in line with 5S.
• Ensuring contractor compliance to all SGCP standards and procedures.
• Support fluid operation of engineering procurement systems.
• Direct management of maintenance consumable and service costs for the department.
• Minimise plant downtime by ensuring effective and efficient maintenance is carried out.
• Ensure that maintenance schedules for all equipment in the section and ensure that these schedules are maintained.
• To do fault finding and root cause analysis on problem equipment and to improve plant efficiency by optimising the available equipment.
• To inform plant management of all situations or conditions that could result in downtime and to take all such remedial action as is necessary to minimise downtime as a result thereof.
• Negotiate, in the company’s interests, with suppliers of equipment and services. Ensuring that proper specifications are given to such suppliers, and that work done by such is of the required standard.
• Management of electrical spares.
• Programme, design and modify PLC, SCADA, industrial computer network systems and VFDs and to assist in establishing and enforcing protocol for such systems.
• SMAT submissions completed, and team submissions ensured.
• Compliance with electrical legislation audited.
• Inspect all sections of the plant frequently and to assess demands that will be made on the electrical section and action plans accordingly.
• Inspection and certification of all electrical installations and equipment, both fixed and portable.
• Understand and drive WCM approach for Reliability and drive strategy.
• To identify improvements in the process that could be made by modifying or replacement of plant and to bring such information to the attention of management.
• Assist with engineering investigations to rectify failures (maintaining a flexible working pattern to give out of hours support where possible) and with EWO completion on electrical failures.
• Lead project teams to ensure improvement projects are completed timeously.
• Complete successful FI and PM projects.
• Prepare CapEx applications for improvement projects.
• Management of the WCM Energy Pillar
• Co-management of the WCM Professional Maintenance Pillar (with mechanical engineer)
• Ensure high quality of maintenance through people development and supervision of assigned tasks.
• Train all members of the section to the required work standards.
• Coaching and Mentoring of staff to ensure efficient operation of maintenance department.
• To identify and conduct such training on computer, SCADA, PLC and VFD systems that will enable engineering and operating personnel to optimise such systems.
• Enforce corrective discipline where required.
