Electrical & General Facilities Handyperson at Truworths

Job Description    

• Truworths has an exciting opportunity available for a qualified Electrician with “handyman” experience as a multi-skilled artisan.
• The position will be based at our Head Office in Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities    
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

• Support and service all the departments’ building needs
• Conduct repairs and maintenance where required to the building
• Inspect and conduct repairs to the entire electrical and plumbing infrastructure for 2 buildings
• Conduct general day to day repairs and maintenance, and assist with department moves
• Conduct general ad hoc tasks as required
• Act as/be a support Head Office Driver as and when required

In addition to the above, further key responsibility areas will include:

• HVAC equipment
• Fire protection system
• Housekeeping and occupational health and safety

Electrical work:

• Attend to all low voltage electrical work as required
• Attend to any tripping of plugs or faulty lights as soon as possible
• Urgently liaise with the electrical contractor to conduct all high voltage repairs
• Ensure all desk cabling is installed neatly and kept tidy at all times
• Conduct meter readings for the Properties Department
• Attend to tripping equipment in all kitchens and pause areas
• Repair any faulty electrical equipment
• Inspect all electrical boards weekly or as often as required for any damage and ensure they are kept clean
• Ensure the infrared and power factor surveys are conducted annually
• Conduct weekly lights’ inspection and replace as soon as possible
• Generators
• Meeting, training and function set up
• Water supply
• Pause areas – Regular checks to ensure everything is in working order and no repair or maintenance needs to be done
• Lighting
• Administration
• Emergency tasks
• Repairs and maintenance

Qualifications and Experience    
Qualification(s):

• Qualified Electrician for single phase only
• Must be in the possession of a N2 qualification (minimum)

Experience/Knowledge:

• 5 years’ minimum experience within the electrical field
• 5+ years in a handyperson position doing repair work
• Must be able to operate most portable electrical tools
• Experience in welding and general plumbing repairs
• Basic carpentry skills
• Must be in possession of an EB drivers’ license

Competencies    
Technical:

• Good understanding of electrical and plumbing infrastructure
• Possess a good understanding of what is required to carry out general building repairs
• Basic MS Office skills.

Essential Competencies:

• General all-rounder with the emphasis on electrical and plumbing experience.

• Able to work on all low voltage equipment.
