Electronics Engineer - Pretoria at Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

About the job:

The CSIR has a vacancy for Electronics Engineer in the Centre for Robotics and Future Production (CRFP). The purpose of the role is to conduct electronic engineering research and development for any of the following environments: robotic platforms, industrial control and/or monitoring, instrumentation or IoT. The position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

• Electronics / Embedded Hardware developer on various projects that leads to products.
• Be part of project team that delivers results on brief on budget and on time.
• Raising personal, team and institutional profiles through publishing original research and presenting work at national and international conferences and workshops
• Interacting with peers within fields of expertise both within and outside the CSIR
• Work in a multidisciplinary environment with clients, engineers, scientists, project managers and technicians.
• Supervise junior staff, interns and vacation students.  

Qualifications, skills and experience:

• BSc in Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or potentially Computer Engineering, with a minimum of three years of relevant electronic design and development experience;
• Focus and interest in electronic development, systems integration, control systems, robotics, mechatronics;
• Experience in at least one Electronic CAD package, Altium is preferred;
• Hands-on experience in construction & testing of Electronics PCB’s;
• Practical person with a good track record in development of systems or products;
• Must have experience in product development processes;
• Problem solving, solution seeking and goal orientation approach;
• Good presentation skills;
• Good computer literacy skills;
• Research and report writing skills;
• High level conceptualisation and analytical skills;
• Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work independently as well as in teams;
• All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
