Electroplater x2 at Transnet

Position Purpose:

• Electroplater sets up and controls plating equipment to coat metal objects electronically with chromium, copper, cadmium, chrome, or other metal to provide protective surfaces or to build up and repair worn surfaces

Position outputs:

• Determine the type , composition , necessary Plating procedure required and the work scope of the plating project
• Decides on the concentration and temparature of the plating solution.
• Sets the current and keeps track of time required to complete the plating process
• Immerses objects in chemical baths, cleaning baths and rinsing baths ( metal cleansing and immersion)
• Suspends objects on cathode rods and immerse them in plating solutions.
• Sets the current and passes it through plating solution to permit electrodeposion of metal on objects.
• Run/router cables and looms through piping and cable trays
• Checks objects being plated periodically to ensure confomance to specification. Electroplater will than adjust voltage and amperage accordingly based on observation
• Examine the electroplated objects at end of the process to determine the thickess of the metal deposit and quality using visual means and instruments
• May be required to mask sections that do not require electroplating.
• May be required to perfom reverse polarity to strip materials
• Drains solutions from bins, cleans and refills tanks
• Remove build up of planting metal from equipment

Qualifications & Experience:

• A Qualified Artisan (Red seal Electroplater)
• 2 years experiance as an electroplater
