Engineer: Mechanical Extraction - Komati at RCL Foods

Job Description    

• We are looking for a Engineer - Mechanical Extraction to be based in our Komati Mill in Mpumalanga. The purpose of this position is to manage Engineering Maintenance in the Extraction Department to ensure that the maintenance of plant and equipment is carried out safely, effectively, and efficiently, at the lowest possible cost and contribute to the optimum operation of the mill:

Minimum Requirements    

• BTech/BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3 years’ Engineering experience.
• Sugar industry engineering experience in managing maintenance of boilers, turbines, front end, or back end.
• Computer literacy is essential,
• Government Certificate of Competency for Factories
• (GCC) will be an added advantage.
• 10-week SMRI certificate.
• Knowledge of maintenance schedules and inspection, SHE procedures and budget and cost control.
• Working knowledge of the OHS Act and other relevant engineering legislations.
• Registration as a Professional in terms of the Engineering Professionals of South Africa Act, 114 of 1990 will be an added advantage.
• Be prepared to work standby and unplanned overtime.
• To be considered for appointment, candidate must be a South African citizen.
• Must be willing to relocate should you not reside within the region. 

Duties & Responsibilities    

• Ensure that the quality of work performed by the maintenance team complies with all mill specifications and established Engineering standards.
• Compile and control expenditure on maintenance, materials, employment, and capital budgets.
• Conceptualise, develop, and deliver capital expenditure projects.
• Develop maintenance plan for the season, off crop as well as short and long stops, to minimize LTA and maximising Overall Time Efficiency (OTE).
• Ensures cane throughput is maximized or optimized with the cane supply departments, ensuring minimal losses through effective maintenance and controls.
• Development, setting and upholding of sound engineering and maintenance management practices and procedures.
• Develop capital improvement plan and manage various projects within the plant as required.
• Performance management, including coaching and development of employees.
• Report and investigate accidents, incidents and implement preventative measures.
• Maintain high quality work standards and good housekeeping in area of responsibility and comply with safety standards and requirements.
