    Engineering Operations Manager

    Job Summary

    To provide expert advice and support in practice formulation and associated best practice in the implementation of technical services and improvement tactics; enabling the provision of specialist expertise.

    Job Purpose:

    Responsible for the planning, mobilisation, management and execution of a business-change project, through the entire Business Change Lifestyle (BCL) by using approved project-management principles. This will include been a subject matter expert for engineering services: on electrical, mechanical, fire and security systems at critical, non-critical and Data Centre sites across the ABSA Group

    Accountability: Engineering Business Management 

    • Support prepared and agreed on the scope of works for projects in line with the Absa Guideline and Principle Standards.
    • Prepare detailed documents for project/sub project and assure these responsibilities and accountabilities for actions are shared with the Project Manager 2 and or Project Owner.
    • Complete all project/programme plans in a way that ensures compliance with Group Change policies, procedures, methodologies, standards, templates, etc.
    • Manage all elements of project execution namely timelines, actions, status reporting, status meetings, deliverables, risks and issues, timescales and resource requirements etc. as detailed in the Absa Guideline and Principle Standards.
    • Co-ordinate the scope of works of the project team and or external consultants by allocating tasks, monitoring progress, ensuring awareness of responsibilities and securing commitment to successful project delivery
    • Establish an agreed audit plan to monitor progress on a regular basis and to audit quality, as and when appropriate, throughout the life of the contract.
    • Analyse fit for purpose and provide corrective actions required for electrical and mechanical engineering as well as fire and security systems requirements at critical non-critical and Data Centre sites
    • Research alternative systems and make recommendations to Head of Engineering Africa
    • Provide technical input on mechanical/electrical engineering requirements as part of project tender documentation to other
    • Provide technical mechanical/electrical engineering input evaluating bidder proposals, as and when engaged by participating in the procurement process and providing technical advice and specifications to the procurement team.
    • Identify the engineering project management and engineering supply need for new or revised mechanical/electrical engineering supplier relationships in the CRES supplier framework to CRES Engineering and Projects and Programmes, by keeping up to date with the supplier performance as often as is determined by Projects and Programmes department.
    • Maintaining knowledge of legislation, external, and industry best practice through participation in industry forums, conferences and other areas of continued professional development (as required by professional bodies). 
    • Engage and liaison with Group IT and ensure capacity planning and implementation is adhered to by managing the developed engineering capacity planning processes inclusive of change management 

    Accountability: Operational/People and Client Management 

    • Oversee the Tier 1 service provider with in Corporate , Retail and Data Centre / Critical Environments and adhere to by engineering operations in line with Services Levels Agreements and Key Performances Indicators are met/achieved. 
    • Oversee the BAU critical maintenance undertaken by the Tier 1 service provider by making sure that service records are logged, and any faults or defects are rectified without affecting the business. 
    • Develop key stakeholders relationship (Corporate, Retail,  Group IT , Data Centre Operational team , Supply chain ,  Audits and any other business requirement management) 
    • Work with Tier 1 / Outsource business partners to constantly challenge and fine delivery of Target Operating Models in Corporate, Retail and Data Centres /Critical Environments
    • Manage, coach and mentor indirect Reports (Supply chain contractors and Tier 2 suppliers). 
    • Manage the corrective actions required for electrical and mechanical engineering as well as fire and security systems requirements at Corporate, Retail and Data Centres and Critical sites 
    • Research alternative processes, systems and make recommendations. This will form part Energy Management, efficiencies and best practice.   
    • Oversee and manage all critical loads throughout the portfolio and make sure that they are monitored daily and analyse trending. 
    • Undertake full operational responsibilities of CRES Engineering with the guidance of Change Control in Corporate, Retail and Data Centre and Critical business locations. 
    • Manage the audit process in all Corporate, Retail and Data Centres and make sure that all information requested by the auditors is made available and coordinate the management comments in the audit reports. 

    Accountability: Risk & Compliance 

    • Manage compliance with all applicable regulations and standards with regards to the critical infrastructure within Corporate, Retail and Data Centre /Critical Environments 
    • Manage compliance with all internal and external auditors 
    • Manage the risk escalation procedures within the Corporate, Retail and Data Centres and tech rooms and make sure they are undertaken in the correct manner and that all team members are suitably trained to react as expected.
    • Manage off IFM Governance in the Corporate, Retail and Data Centre Engineering space (this will include business cases and change notes).
    • Accountability: Technical Input Management 
    • Provide and manage technical input into the business to ensure the integrity of the Absa Corporate, Retail and Data centre/Critical Environment in portfolio is well supported and is not exposed to unnecessary risk. 
    • Assist the CRES Engineering Manager to research, review and input into any project, change or any other Corporate, Retail and Data Centre activity ascertaining that it meets the Guideline and Principles Global standards or best business practice. 
    • Maintaining knowledge of legislation, external, and industry best practice through participation in industry forums, conferences and other areas of continued professional development (as required by professional bodies). 

    Accountability: Innovation 

    • Produce periodic proposals for improved customer focus, cost reduction/cost optimisation opportunities, best in class for best value solutions. 
    • Research new Corporate, Retail and Data Centre initiatives and focus on optimisation of effective solutions for reductions in costs such as lowering of the PUE. 

    Skills and Experience:

    • Electrical /Mechanical Engineer (PrEng)/ B Degree
    • Appropriate Engineering/Science/Technical Certificate of studies 
    • Or time served apprenticeship 
    • Appropriate Chartered and member of Professional institute 
    • Overseeing construction projects, including data centres, with major mechanical/electrical engineering component 
    • Extensive experience of full range of statutory mechanical/electrical engineering processes 
    • 5 - 8 years’ experience
    • Minimum of 5 to 8 years working experience (preferable Financial banking /Corporate and Retail sector)

    • Extensive experience of full range of statutory mechanical/electrical engineering processes 
    • Certified to do MV Switching 6.6 to 11Kva

    • Technical Report Writing 
    • Working hours can be flexible and can be consulted and adjusted depending on the work on the day and week. There are on-call duties after normal working hours.

    Education

    • Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology (Required)
