    Environmental Officer: Production Grade A (Environmental empowerment services) 

    Salary range: R343 842 – R380 145 per annum (OSD)

    • Appropriate salary will be determined according to the regulatory framework (based on OSD).
    • Centres and employment equity targets:
    • Chris Hani Region (x2): Ref. DEDEAT/2025/10/17
    • Target: African Female / Persons with Disabilities (PwD)
    • Joe Gqabi Region: Ref. DEDEAT/2025/10/18
    • Target: African Male / Persons with Disabilities (PwD)

    Requirements:

    • National Senior Certificate plus a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Environmental Management, Natural Sciences, Nature Conservation, or another relevant qualification.
    • No experience required as per OSD provisions; however, 1–2 years of relevant experience will be an added advantage.
    • A valid driver’s licence is required.

    Knowledge, skills, and attributes:

    • Knowledge of and experience in community-based natural resource and biological diversity management.
    • Computer literacy and proficiency in relevant software.
    • Good writing and communication skills.

    Knowledge of environmental legislation, including:

    • National Environmental Management Act (NEMA)
    • National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act (NEMPA)

    Duties:

    • Implement environmental empowerment programmes to facilitate the integration of environmental education into formal education structures (schools, institutions of higher learning, etc.).
    • Identify and implement environmental capacity-building programmes for the general public and relevant stakeholders.
    • Promote and implement environmental awareness programmes within communities.
    • Perform and manage administrative and related functions as required.
