Role Context

Health and Safety

• Conduct risk and safety inspections, identifying and reporting any risks within the allocated area of operations and completing the requisite checklist recording the associated risks.
• Conduct a prestart safety checklist by inspecting the Excavator (50t), identifying any risks and concerns, and escalating them to the control room and Foreman ensuring all safety requirements are met before the Excavator (50t), is put into operation for the day.
• Conduct continuous risk assessments throughout the day by proactively identifying and reporting identified risks within the areas of operation and collaborating with the various departments to support and maintain a safe working environment.
• Maintain and manage one’s own health and safety across the area of operations by adhering to all health and safety protocols and procedures to minimise any incidents within the working environment.

Equipment Operations

• Conduct a prestart safety checklist by inspecting the Excavator (50t), identifying any risks and concerns, and escalating them to the control room and Foreman ensuring all safety requirements are met before the Excavator (50t), is put into operation for the day.
• Execute excavator tasks inline with the planning requirements of the mine ensuring blocks are appropriately cleaned, boulders removed, ramps are constructed, and crests are exposed for the progression of all respective mining activities.
• Conduct routine inspections and ensure preventative maintenance is performed on the excavator as well as the roads, as and when is required.
• Collaborate with the various supervisors, foreman and other departments to ensure that all blocks are excavated and cleaned in line with their operational requirements, fostering a safe working environment.
• Manage the loading of the Excavator (50t), by understanding the loading capacity of the excavator ensuring the weight on the machine is appropriately balanced and the integrity of the machine is not compromised during operations.
• Conduct daily housekeeping across the Excavator (50t), that this role has worked with by cleaning the cabin, conducting an end of shift inspection on the Excavator (50t), and ensuring any required maintenance or cleaning is scheduled accordingly to keep the Operator in peak operational condition.
• Manage the operation of the Excavator (50t), by monitoring and controlling the area of operation in and around the operator ensuring a safe working environment is maintained, reporting any deviations from TM’s health and safety standards.
• Complete all movement logs for the Excavator (50t), by recording all movements and loads managed throughout the respective shift to ensure accurate records are kept of all movements.
• Aid with secondary loading of materials across the various departments of the mine by loading reef or waste whilst cleaning the block ensuring all reef and waste is removed from the block and transported to the appropriate section of the mine.
• Work to achieve the established targets of the Excavator Operator daily, in line with the requirements of the mine by excavating and cleaning areas of the respective block.

Daily Planning

• Work in line with the established timelines and pressures by adhering to the daily and weekly operational plans as well as prioritising adhoc daily requests for movements of loads outside of the allocated ‘block/s’.
• Work according to the daily and weekly plan by engaging with the supervisor to understand the intended targets and notifying them of any potential delays (due to breakdowns or any other causes) to enable continuous monitoring of target achievement.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 (NQF 4).

Certifications:

• Relevant license of operation for the Excavator Operator.

Job specific experience:

• 1 year mining experience in open cast mining will be an advantage.
• Code 10 driver license for multi-skilling purpose.
• Must pass both medical and dover tests.
• Minimum of 1 year as an excavator operator.
