ROLE OVERVIEW

• Location: Johannesburg (Hybrid role with 50–80% in-office presence)
• Department: Data & Analytics / IT
• Reports to: Chief Information Officer
• The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Business Intelligence function, managing enterprise reporting capabilities, and delivering data-driven insights. The role requires strong technical expertise in Power BI, SQL Server, ETL processes, and stakeholder management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The day-to-day functions include:

• Develop, publish, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to track KPIs and business performance.
• Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts to extract, clean, and transform data.
• Analyse large and complex datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and process improvement opportunities.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across reporting outputs.
• Design and maintain ETL processes and support data modelling and database optimisation.
• Gather reporting requirements from senior stakeholders and translate them into technical solutions.
• Deliver ad hoc analysis to support operational, financial, and strategic decisions.
• Train and support end-users in accessing and interpreting reports.
• Lead and mentor a small team of in-house data analysts.
• Drive continuous improvement and automation of reporting methodologies and data pipelines.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and security standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
• 4–6 years’ experience as a Data Analyst, BI Analyst, or similar role.
• Minimum 3 years’ hands-on experience with Power BI in a professional environment.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience with SQL Server, including query development and performance tuning.
• Experience working with enterprise-level datasets, preferably within financial services, fintech, or similar industries.
• Certifications preferred: Microsoft Certified Data Analyst Associate (Power BI) and/or Azure Data Fundamentals / SQL Server certifications.
