    Fabric Technologist

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 

    Implement an integrated Fabric Sourcing strategy within the framework of the Product Group strategy and aligning this to PEP’s value positioning. Ensure product delivery that exceed customer expectations of value , quality and sustainability 

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Manage and implement the fabric development and execution process in line with the business strategy 
    • Provide input into the seasonal fabric/supplier strategy process 
    • Continuously assess opportunities for value engineering with clear tracking and measurement 
    • Keep abreast of local and overseas raw material developments in line with key trends of the season 
    • Guide and influence fabric decisions in line with volume business needs as well as fashion trends in industry 
    • Review new fabric developments in industry and customise for value retail 
    • Manage and implement the fabric development and execution strategy 
    • Evaluate fabric standards and set new standards where applicable 
    • Monitor and track fabric standard within our supply base, critical path and authorise qualities
    • Development and maintenance of Resource centres (includes the upkeep of the fabric library)
    • Liaise with PEP laboratory to ensure fabric complies with PEP standards 
    • Manage specifications and technical packs to ensure product meets technical performance & quality 
    • Assist Quality Assurance department with any fabric related queries or quality issues that arise

    JOB INCUMBENT REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Degree or Diploma in relevant clothing related field (preferably fabric technology) 
    • 5 - 8 years Fabric Sourcing and technical experience in retail and/or manufacturing.(Essential)
    • Understanding of the International and South African fabric industry. (Essential) 
    • Knowledge of fibre and yarn manufacturing (natural and synthetic) 
    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (wovens and knits) 
    • Knowledge of end to end process - fabrics 
    • Understanding the garment manufacturing process (factory exposure advantageous) 
    • Experience in problem solving issues arising at fabric / manufacturing process 
    • Willingness to travel (local and international travel))
